Dugoni IDS Interview & Requirements: 2026-27 Guide

Dugoni's IDS takes 57 internationally trained dentists, the largest CAAPID intake. CASPer, hard TOEFL and letter cutoffs, and the October interview week.

The largest advanced standing intake in CAAPID at 57 seats, with three hard cutoffs that make applicants ineligible before anyone reads their file. return ( <> Three Rules That Disqualify People Before Anyone Reads Their File Dugoni takes more internationally trained dentists than any other CAAPID program — 57 seats a year, against Louisville's one. That makes it one of the most applied-to programs in the country, and it publishes unusually strict rules about what it will even look at. Three of them are absolute. Miss one and your file is not weak, it is ineligible. 1. A TOEFL taken before 21 January 2026 will not be considered. Not "less competitive" — not considered. For the 2026–27 cycle Dugoni requires the new scoring format, minimum overall 4.5 . The school's own words are that exams taken before that date "will not be considered for admission," with advice to plan time to retake. If your score predates the change, you are retaking

it, however good it was. 2. Letters dated before January 2025 will not be considered. Also absolute. If your recommenders wrote for an earlier cycle, those letters are dead weight and you need updated ones — or new recommenders — before June. 3. An ECE GPA below 2.0 is ineligible. Dugoni requires an ECE course-by-course evaluation showing a cumulative US grade average of 2.0 or higher . Applicants converting to 0–1.99 "will not be eligible to apply". Dugoni also states that ECE's Best Result GPA is not considered , so the number that counts is the cumulative one. None of these are visible on the aggregator sites, and all three are the kind of thing you discover in June when there is no time left to fix them. Dugoni Requires CASPer — and the Link Is Hiding Behind a Fee Every IDS applicant must complete the CASPer assessment , an online scenario-based test of communication, ethics, empathy and decision-making. Among CAAPID programs this

is unusual — most do not ask for it at all. The operational detail matters more than the requirement itself: The registration email only arrives after you pay. Dugoni sends the CASPer registration link after the $100 supplemental application fee has been paid . Test dates run March through June. So paying the fee late does not just delay your application — it compresses the window in which you can sit a test that your application is incomplete without. One thing that is genuinely easy here: results go directly from CASPer to Dugoni. There is nothing for you to forward, and no score report to chase. A second, quieter step arrives with the same email — your dental CV is collected through a Qualtrics survey , not uploaded to CAAPID. It is part of the application, and it is the single easiest item on this page to miss completely. Practice the scenarios CASPer and interviews both test. Ethical dilemmas, communication and judgement — answered

out loud, with instant feedback on your reasoning.. Try it free →. No Bench Test This Cycle Most CAAPID programs put you in front of a manikin at some point. Dugoni states plainly that it will not be requiring a technical examination for the 2026–2027 admissions cycle . That is a meaningful saving in preparation time, and it changes what your interview day is. But note the wording: it is stated for this cycle specifically. It is not a permanent policy, and it is worth re-checking if you are applying in a later year. The Full Timeline, Which Dugoni Actually Publishes Unusually for a CAAPID program, Dugoni publishes its whole calendar rather than leaving applicants refreshing their inbox for five months. Stage. When. CAAPID opens. March 5, 2026. Deadline. June 12, 2026, 11:59pm Eastern — no exceptions. Committee review. June through August/September 2026. Interview status notice. Late August / early September 2026. Interview week. In

person, San Francisco, mid-to-late October 2026. Final decisions. Late November 2026. Matriculation. Early July 2027. Two things are worth drawing out. First, every applicant is notified of their interview status , not only those invited — so silence is not a rejection, it means the date has not arrived. Dugoni says it will announce the specific notification date at the end of the application window. Second, the deadline is genuinely firm. The school notes that the CAAPID form stays open afterwards, and that applications not complete by 12 June "will not be considered for admission, with no exceptions." An open form is not an extension. What Is Known About the Interview — and What Isn't Dugoni confirms that interviews are in person on the San Francisco campus, by invitation only , and required to be considered for admission. What it does not publish is the format. There is no statement of whether it runs as a panel, a series of

one-to-one conversations, or a station circuit, nor how long it lasts or how many candidates attend. Anyone quoting you a Dugoni interview format is guessing. Compare this with Michigan , which states outright that its advanced standing interview is an MMI. Dugoni publishes no equivalent. The honest preparation is to be ready for a conversation about your own file and your reasons for practising in the US, and to read your invitation carefully when it comes. What you can prepare for with confidence is the substance. CASPer tells you what Dugoni values — communication, ethics, empathy and judgement — and it would be surprising if the interview asked about anything else. Letters: Almost the Opposite of Michigan's Rules If you are applying to several programs, do not assume one set of letters satisfies them all. Dugoni and Michigan want nearly opposite things. Rule. Dugoni IDS. Michigan ITDP. Number required. Three. Three. Dean's letter.

Not required. Required. From dental professionals. At least two of the three. Two of choice. Extra letters. One optional extra accepted. Not accepted at all. Signature. Hand signed — digital not accepted. Signed, on letterhead. Age limit. Nothing before January 2025. Under 2 years more competitive. The signature rule catches people. Dugoni states that digitally signed letters will not be accepted — a recommender who signs a PDF electronically, as most academics now do by default, has written you a letter that does not count. The Rest of the File Boards: NBDE Parts 1 & 2, or the INBDE. A fail, or a score of 74 or less , will not be considered. Diploma: an authentic full-colour photocopy of the school-issued document. Provisional degrees are not accepted. Transcripts, mark sheets, licences and registration certificates are not substitutes. Fee: $100 supplemental, card only, non-refundable — and pay it after your CAAPID fees, since it

cannot be refunded if paid in error. Nothing extra: Dugoni will not accept supplementary materials, documents or recommendations beyond the CAAPID application, aside from that one optional letter. After acceptance: offers are conditional on an enrolment deposit, a background check and a medical examination. Processing takes two to three weeks once the application and fees are in. An email titled "Application Status — COMPLETE" means it has reached the committee. Yes. All applicants to the International Dental Studies program must complete the CASPer assessment. The registration link is emailed only after the $100 supplemental

application fee has been paid test dates run March through June and results are sent directly to Dugoni with no further action from you. What TOEFL score does Dugoni IDS require? A minimum overall score of 4.5 on the new TOEFL scoring format. Critically for the 2026-27 cycle Dugoni will not consider TOEFL exams taken before 21 January 2026 at all regardless of the score so an older result means retaking the exam. Is there a bench test for Dugoni IDS? Not for the 2026-27 cycle. Dugoni states it will not be requiring a technical examination for this admissions cycle. That is stated for this cycle specifically rather than as permanent policy so confirm again if you apply in a later year. What GPA does Dugoni require on the ECE evaluation? A cumulative US grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Applicants whose ECE evaluation converts to 0-1.99 are not eligible to apply. Dugoni also states that ECE s Best Result GPA is not considered so the

cumulative figure is the one that decides eligibility. When are Dugoni IDS interviews held? Interview week is hosted in person on the San Francisco campus in mid-to-late October 2026. All applicants are notified of their interview status in late August or early September and interviewed candidates receive final decisions in late November 2026. What format is the Dugoni IDS interview? Dugoni does not publish the format. It confirms only that interviews are in person by invitation and required for admission. Any source quoting a specific structure is guessing. Prepare to discuss your own application your clinical experience and your ethical reasoning. How many students does Dugoni take into the IDS program? 57 according to ADEA s CAAPID program finder which is the largest advanced standing intake of any CAAPID program.
