Touro Dental School Interview: DDS 2026-27
Touro DDS guide from its own pages: a 30-minute, one-on-one, open-file interview, in person or virtual, Sept–March, and Class of 2030 stats.
Touro interviews one-on-one for 30 minutes, open file, in person or virtual, from September through March, and interviewed 816 from 4,360 applications for its Class of 2030. Here is what Touro publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> Touro DDS Requirements and Class Profile Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College runs a four-year DDS program. Every student spends the first two years on its campus in Westchester County, New York, next to New York Medical College's main campus (Touro's pages call it both the Hawthorne and the Valhalla campus). The two clinical years are in New York or in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and you state your preference when you apply through AADSAS. Touro publishes the applications, interviews, class size and stats for four classes, the Classes of 2027 through 2030. Figure. Class of 2030. Class of 2029. Applications received. 4,360. 3,370. The Class of 2030 is Touro's first-year class in 2026–27. Applications have risen with every class Touro lists: 2,644 for the Class of 2027, 2,891 for 2028, 3,370 for 2029 and 4,360 for 2030. Interviews ranged from 809 to 947 per class (816 for the Class of 2030). Touro's "4 Year Combined Statistics" count students from 203+ colleges and 21+ states, with an average age of 26. Which DAT scale is 440 on?. The 200–600 scale the DAT has used since 1 March 2025. Touro labels the figure "Total DAT" and doesn't say which DAT score that is, or whether its class figures are averages or medians. Its Classes of 2027 through 2029 show 21.0, on the old 1–30 scale. Those are different students, not a conversion table, so if your score is on the old scale, don't compare it with a bare 440. Why this
guide gives no acceptance rate. Touro publishes applications, interviews and class size, not how many offers it made. 816 interviews from 4,360 applications is fewer than 1 in 5; how many of those interviewed were offered a seat can't be worked out from its page. Prerequisite coursework Course. Minimum. General biology. 2 semesters or equivalent, with labs. General chemistry. 2 semesters or equivalent, with labs. Organic chemistry. 1 semester or equivalent, with lab. Biochemistry. 1 semester, with or without lab. Physics. 2 semesters or equivalent, with labs. English. 2 semesters or equivalent, or your undergraduate institution's English requirement for graduation. Touro says it "reserves the right to waive any of these requirements for an individual applicant." Labs, and nothing online: Touro says "Science courses must include substantial laboratory work" and "We do not accept online prerequisites or degrees." It has no preference for
a major. A bachelor's degree before you start. Touro's requirements page calls a degree by the time you matriculate "desirable," but the same page says students without one "can apply, but must receive a bachelor's degree prior to matriculation into dental school," and its 2025–2027 catalog says "You will need a baccalaureate degree." Read it as required. A minimum GPA of 2.7 in science and 2.7 overall, on a 4.0 scale, in a professional, graduate or undergraduate program, to be eligible. Touro says it evaluates success in undergraduate science courses "based on increasing academic performance over time." The DAT is required , taken between January 2024 and January 31, 2027. Touro's Admissions Committee views it "as evidence of minimal academic competence," and if you've taken it more than once, "the most recent score will be used." Letters: one pre-dental committee letter, or three letters from undergraduate faculty: two from science
faculty who taught you or supervised your independent research for credit (math doesn't count as a science), and a third that can be from a non-science course or from volunteer work in a dental office or clinic. One of the letters must come from your major. If you are completing a graduate degree, you also need, besides the undergraduate letters, a graduate advisory committee letter or individual graduate letters; if you have already finished one, ask admissions.dds@touro.edu whether this applies. Letters from employers or from volunteer clinical or community service are "highly recommended but not required." Shadowing: Touro's admissions pages set no number of shadowing hours. Your third letter can come from volunteer work in a dental office or clinic, and the interview evaluates your "preparation for dentistry." Not eligible: anyone who previously matriculated at any dental school and, for any reason, withdrew or was dismissed.
Graduated a while ago? Two dates for one letter rule. If you can't get letters from your undergraduate or graduate school, Touro's requirements page accepts other academically oriented letters if you graduated before 2024. Its 2025–2027 catalog sets that cutoff at before 2016. Both say the requested letters will strengthen your application. The catalog is stricter: unless you graduated before 2016, plan on the standard letters. CASPer or Kira?. Touro's admissions pages and its 2025–2027 catalog don't mention CASPer, Acuity Insights, Kira or any similar assessment. What they ask for, besides AADSAS and your coursework, is the DAT, letters of evaluation, a $100 processing fee (in the catalog) and, if you are invited, an interview. Not a US citizen? Touro's admissions page says international applicants generally need to have completed undergraduate work leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited US or Canadian college, and that
applicants who are "non-US citizens or do not obtain permanent resident status by July 1st of the year entering dental school" must deposit four years' tuition and fees, or two years' with a creditworthy US co-signer, in a bank escrow account before they matriculate. Its catalog says that US or Canadian bachelor's degree is required, and mentions only the four-year deposit. Plan on the catalog's terms. To confirm a rule where Touro's pages disagree, its Student Admissions office is at admissions.dds@touro.edu or 914-594-2638. The Touro Interview: What Touro Says It is 30 minutes, one-on-one and open file. In Touro's words, interviews are "conducted in an open file holistic format; the interviewer has access to the applicant's file prior to or during the interview." In person or virtual. Touro's admissions department contacts "select qualified applicants with an invitation for an in-person or virtual interview." It doesn't say how the
setting is decided. September through March. Interviews run from September through March, and admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. What it is for. Touro says the goal is "to assess the applicant's suitability for dentistry," and that the interview is designed to evaluate "non-cognitive domains considered critical to becoming an effective dental practitioner, such as empathy, critical thinking, moral reasoning and ethical grounding, open-mindedness, ability to collaborate as well as interpersonal skills." How you are evaluated. On "communication skills, flexibility, leadership, team experience, intellectual ability, learning skills and motivation, and preparation for dentistry." Touro's catalog describes the goal as assessing your suitability for dentistry "with a final ranking and comments that support the ranking." Fewer than 1 in 5 applicants was interviewed for the Class of 2030: 816 from 4,360 applications. Wait to be
contacted. Touro says "You should not contact TCDM about your application." What applicants report These are posts on a public applicant forum, not Touro's words: This cycle (2026–27): on 31 August 2026 an applicant posted an interview invitation received by email that day, giving the method as "Virtual and in person" and listing the earliest dates as December 2 (virtual), December 9 (in person), December 16 (virtual) and January 9 (in person). Last cycle (2025–26): two applicants invited by email on 21 July 2025 described an in-person interview with "virtual dates also offered"; a third invited the same day wrote "In-person or virtual." Three applicants invited between 12 August and 18 September 2025 listed their interview as virtual. When another applicant asked on 31 July 2025 whether Touro had supplemental questions beyond AADSAS, one replied: "No questions, just the fee." Posts in the same thread mention interviews on 21 January
2026 (in person), in February and in March 2026. One applicant posted an acceptance by email on 5 February 2026, after the 21 January interview; another posted on 10 March that they had been accepted by email on 7 March, "not long after my interview." One wrote "Class of 2030 - NY/NM!", the other "NY/NM cohort." On 22 October 2025, two applicants posted that they had received an "on hold" email from Touro, one adding that their AADSAS status had changed to "None"; one more reported receiving one on 1 December 2025, and another replied "I did" on 9 December when asked whether anyone else had. One applicant reported being waitlisted on 7 March 2026 after a February interview, and on 17 March another wrote that Touro had emailed them the day before that it had "just started looking at the waitlist." What Touro doesn't publish. Who interviews you, how the in-person or virtual setting is decided, what the interview day includes, what is
asked, and what an "on hold" email means. Touro does say your interviewer has access to your file, so reread your whole AADSAS application before the day and be ready to go deeper on any part of it. Touro says you can expect to hear "approximately 6 to 8 weeks after your interview date and no earlier than December 15," so even an early interview means waiting until at least mid-December. January 31 or February 1?. Touro's admissions page gives February 1 as its application deadline and mentions no supplemental deadline. Its catalog sets the DAT cutoff at "the supplemental application deadline of January 31 of the application year," and describes no supplemental application beyond the $100 processing fee. To be safe, take the DAT and pay the fee by January 31, 2027. What Touro Looks For Touro says "Admission criteria are
not weighted" and that each applicant is subject to "an individual, flexible holistic review." The personal characteristics its admissions page lists begin with "Altruism, compassion, honesty, integrity," and its catalog adds, "in keeping with TCDM's stated mission, a commitment to provide care for people who are disadvantaged and underserved." The interview's own criteria make the best checklist: Empathy and interpersonal skills: tell one story about one person: what you noticed about how they felt, and what you did about it. Moral reasoning and ethical grounding: practice talking through a dilemma out loud: the options, who each one affects, and why you would choose one. Touro says that throughout its curriculum it stresses "the importance of understanding ethical decision making along with good communication skills." Ability to collaborate and team experience: have a story of a team that struggled and what you did to move it forward.
In Touro's clinics, third- and fourth-year students are paired into "two-person clinical practice teams." Leadership: pick a time you took responsibility for an outcome, not just a title. Critical thinking and communication skills: answer the question you were asked, give your reasoning in order, and finish in about two minutes. Flexibility and open-mindedness: have an example of changing your plan or your mind when the facts changed. Learning skills, motivation and preparation for dentistry: know how you learn best, what you saw in dental settings, and what it confirmed for you. The best Why Touro material is in its two campuses. Touro's basic science curriculum was developed in conjunction with New York Medical College's School of Medicine, and the first two years are on the NYMC campus. On AADSAS you say where you want your clinical years: New York, Albuquerque or no preference. If you're accepted as an Albuquerque cohort, you spend
your third and fourth years there, and students who train at either site receive their degree from New York State. Touro says recent studies found that New Mexico has only 48.4 dentists per 100,000 people, notes that the state has no dental school, and says it aims to meet the needs of the Albuquerque community. At both clinics, third- and fourth-year students work in two-person teams, and all students use digital dentistry, including cone beam CT, scanning, 3D printing and milling. Be ready to explain the clinical-site preference you gave. The practice questions below are ours, built on these criteria. Touro does not publish its interview questions. Touro does not publish its interview questions; these are practice questions built on what it says it evaluates. Its interview is open file so your interviewer may already know your in about 90 seconds connect who you are the experiences that led you to dentistry and why Touro is the next step rather than reciting your application. Why dentistry? Touro evaluates your “motivation” and your “preparation for dentistry.” Anchor your answer in something you saw or did in a dental setting then say what it confirmed for you. Why Touro? Use what Touro says about its program such as a basic science curriculum developed in conjunction with New York Medical College s School of Medicine two-person clinical practice teams of third- and fourth-year students and digital dentistry including cone beam CT scanning 3D printing and milling.
Connect one of them to how you want to learn; praise for the name is not a reason. Which clinical-site preference did you give on AADSAS (New York New Mexico or no preference) and why? You state this preference on AADSAS and if you are accepted as an Albuquerque cohort you spend your third and fourth years there. Give a real reason such as where you want to practice or the patients you want to serve and know what Touro says about New Mexico s shortage of dentists. Behavioral Tell me about a time you worked on a team that struggled. Touro evaluates “team experience” and the “ability to collaborate.” Keep the setup short and spend most of the answer on what you did to move the team forward and what you would do again. Describe a time you led others. “Leadership” is on Touro s list of what it evaluates. Pick a moment when you took responsibility for an outcome not just a title and say what happened as a result. Tell me about a time you
changed your mind. Touro names “flexibility” and “open-mindedness.” Say what new information changed your view how you adjusted and what it taught you about how you decide. How do you learn best? Touro evaluates “learning skills ” and it evaluates success in undergraduate science courses “based on increasing academic performance over time.” Give a concrete example of how you mastered something hard and how you will use the same approach in dental school. Ethical / Scenario A patient needs treatment they cannot afford. What do you do? Touro s interview is designed to evaluate empathy and “moral reasoning and ethical grounding.” Acknowledge the patient without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community clinic and never lower the standard of care. Show your reasoning; a question like this rarely has a single right answer. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? Touro lists honesty and
integrity among the personal characteristics it looks for. Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation to the proper channels and say why integrity matters when patients trust your license. Your clinic partner wants to cut a corner on a patient s care. What do you do? Touro pairs third- and fourth-year students into two-person clinical practice teams. Show that you would put the patient first raise it with your partner directly and bring in the supervising faculty if that fails. A patient refuses the treatment you recommend. How do you respond? Balance the patient s right to decide with their wellbeing. Explain clearly find out what worries them offer alternatives document the conversation and do not abandon the patient. Prepare for an interviewer with your file Touro s interview is open “the interviewer has access to the applicant s file prior to or during the interview.” Reread your whole AADSAS application and be ready to
go deeper on any experience in it instead of retelling it. Have a reason for New York New Mexico or no preference Touro asks you to state a clinical-site preference on AADSAS and if you are accepted as an Albuquerque cohort you spend your third and fourth years there. Know why you stated the preference you did and what Touro says about New Mexico s need for dentists. Pay the $100 processing fee when Touro emails Touro s catalog says every applicant with a verified AADSAS application receives an email with instructions for a $100 processing fee which “will allow us to move you to the next steps in the process.” On a public applicant forum on 31 July 2025 one applicant reported no supplemental questions “just the fee.” Retake the DAT only when you re ready If you ve taken the DAT more than once Touro says “the most recent score will be used ” so a weaker retake is the score Touro uses.
