Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) enrolls 100 internationally trained dental school graduates each year into its two-year DMD Advanced Standing program, and you apply through ADEA CAAPID. ADEA's 2026 cycle runs from March 5, 2026 to January 29, 2027, but BU's own deadline is earlier: October 15, 2026 . Students admitted in this cycle begin the program in late July 2027 (ADEA lists July 26, 2027), not in January. Applying by October 15, 2026. BU's deadline is the CAAPID submission deadline, and BU says "CAAPID will release your application 1-3 days after all required CAAPID documents and payments have been submitted." You may submit before completing

requirements such as the NBDE, the TOEFL or your letters of evaluation, but BU says the application "will not be considered until the file is complete." BU recommends "submitting completed applications early in the cycle," so if you are applying now, get every document in as soon as you can. Questions about your own file go to asdent@bu.edu. The dates and rules BU publishes for the 2026 cycle: When. What BU says. March 5, 2026. The CAAPID application opens, “the year before enrollment”. As each file is completed. Rolling review: BU considers applications “as they are completed rather than only at the application deadline”. From May. Interviews begin; after that, applicants may be invited “at any point in the cycle after submitting their complete application”. May to November. Interviews, remotely via Zoom; some candidates may be invited outside this period. Fall and winter (BU also says “throughout the interview cycle”). Optional Sunday

Visit Days for applicants invited to interview. October 15, 2026. BU's CAAPID submission deadline. Rolling, until late July 2027. Admissions decisions; until you hear, your application “remains under active consideration”. Late July 2027. The program begins (ADEA: July 26, 2027). What BU requires A dental degree. You must have earned "the international equivalent of the DMD dental degree from an accredited institution and hold a final diploma before applying." The INBDE or the NBDE Parts 1 and 2, passed. BU gives preference to applicants who pass on their first attempt. A pass from years ago still counts; BU's FAQ says you do not need to retake the exams. A TOEFL iBT score of at least 90 on a test taken before January 21, 2026, or 4.5 on a test taken after that date, no older than two years from the date you submit to CAAPID. BU grants no waivers and requires the TOEFL of every applicant, including US citizens and permanent residents.

It accepts the Home Edition, but not MyBest scores or TOEFL Essentials. Send scores to CAAPID with institution code B451. Three letters of evaluation: one from your dental school's dean, one from a dental school faculty member and one from a clinical employer. BU's ADEA profile allows a faculty letter in place of the dean's and a clinical supervisor's in place of the faculty one, plus one optional extra letter. An ECE course-by-course evaluation (ECE's Dental School Transcript Course-by-Course Evaluation), sent to CAAPID, not to BU. BU's ADEA profile says "World Education Services (WES) evaluations are not accepted." A CV , uploaded to BU's Program Materials section in CAAPID. List only continuing education courses of at least three hours that you attended in the past 12 months. After you submit, CAAPID won't take a new CV, so email updates to asdent@bu.edu. An $80 supplemental application fee , non-refundable. GSDM emails payment

instructions after it receives your application; CAAPID's own fees are separate. BU's ADEA profile says "The ADAT is not required" and answers "No" for a bench test and for a supplemental application, and BU's Advanced Standing pages mention no Kira, CASPer or other assessment. The same profile says foreign nationals, US citizens and permanent residents may apply, and that GSDM Admissions helps enrolled international students who need an I-20 or DS-2019. BU's TOEFL wording disagrees with itself. BU's requirements page asks for "a TOEFL score of at least 90 before January 21, 2026, or 4.5 on the iBT TOEFL® after January 21, 2026," then says "Applications with a score below 90 or 4.5 or less will not be considered." Its ADEA profile gives "a minimum of 4.5". If your new-scale score is exactly 4.5, confirm with asdent@bu.edu before you rely on it. The BU Interview: What BU Says This is everything BU's Advanced Standing pages and its ADEA

profile say about the interview: It is by invitation, and it is required. "The Admissions Committee will invite a select number of applicants to interview. While an interview is required for admission, it does not guarantee acceptance." It is remote, on Zoom. "Interviews are conducted remotely via Zoom between May and November, with the possibility of scheduling outside this timeframe." BU's ADEA profile adds "unless applicants are otherwise informed." An invitation can come at any point once your file is complete. "Once interviews begin in May, applicants may be invited to interview at any point in the cycle after submitting their complete application." It comes with Zoom sessions with students and staff. "As part of the interview experience, applicants have the opportunity to meet via Zoom with student Admissions Ambassadors, Student Affairs, and Student Financial Services/Housing Resources." BU won't interview you again in a later

cycle. "Applicants who have interviewed in a prior cycle will not be re-interviewed." The Zoom Interview: What BU Doesn't Publish BU does not say who interviews you, how long the interview lasts, whether one person or a panel interviews you, whether your interviewer has read your application (open or closed file), or what it asks. Expect a Zoom interview, by invitation from the Admissions Committee, and read your invitation closely for the details BU leaves out here. Prepare for every version of a Zoom interview. Because BU publishes so little, prepare answers that work with one interviewer or several, and with an interviewer who has read your file or one who hasn't: a short version of each story you can expand when asked a follow-up, and a re-read of your own CAAPID application, personal statement and CV so nothing in them surprises you. Visit Day BU "cannot accommodate tours for prospective students," because it functions as a

clinical facility. Instead, "Applicants invited for interviews are given the opportunity to visit the dental school during Visit Days." For Advanced Standing applicants the Visit Day is optional and in person, on a Sunday, "when no patient care occurs, allowing Admissions Ambassadors to lead tours that include patient treatment areas." BU says each lasts about six hours and includes: breakfast, lunch and a presentation by the Associate Dean of Admissions; a technology demonstration in the Simulation Learning Center; a student panel, and interactive discussions with the Deans of Admissions, Student Affairs, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB), as well as GSDM alumni. BU's pages say Visit Days are "offered throughout the interview cycle" and also that they "are held multiple times throughout the fall and winter," so if you interview in May or over the summer, ask asdent@bu.edu when the next one is. BU does not say whether

attending affects its decision. Offers of Admission BU reviews applications and sends decisions on a rolling basis: "GSDM evaluates applications on a rolling basis, considering them as they are completed rather than only at the application deadline," and "Admissions decisions are also communicated on a rolling basis." Its FAQ ties this to timing: "Interviews are conducted between May and November, and offers of admission are extended on a rolling basis. Therefore, candidates are strongly encouraged to apply early in the admissions cycle." BU does not say how soon after an interview a decision comes. It says "The Admissions Committee may provide updates on application status at any time before the program begins in late July 2027," and "If an applicant has not yet received a decision, their application remains under active consideration." Reapplying? BU won't interview you again. "Applicants who have interviewed in a prior cycle will not

be re-interviewed." To reapply, you submit a new CAAPID application for the current cycle, "including an updated CV or resume and new letters of evaluation," and BU encourages reapplicants "to highlight their achievements and experiences since their last application." BU does not say how it weighs an earlier interview, so treat your first BU interview as the only one you will get. What BU Goldman Looks For BU "conducts a holistic review of all aspects of candidates’ applications and selects candidates for admission based on the following": Clinical experience practicing dentistry Experience as a dental assistant or hygienist in the US or Canada Scholastic achievement Aptitude in dental medicine Other personal qualifications, experiences, and non-cognitive achievements "Applicants who meet the above criteria are given priority. Additional considerations for admission include research experience, teaching experience, and specialty

training." BU doesn't say how the interview feeds into these criteria, but each one gives you something to prepare: Clinical experience practicing dentistry. Have two or three cases from your own practice ready to walk through: what you found, what you decided and why, and how it turned out. US or Canadian dental assistant or hygienist work. BU lists it separately from clinical experience, so give it its own story if you have it: what you did, the patients you saw, and what it taught you about dentistry in the US or Canada. Scholastic achievement and aptitude. Be ready to talk about your grades and your board results. BU prefers a first-attempt pass, so if you needed more than one attempt, explain what changed. Everything else you bring. Research, teaching and specialty training are the additional considerations BU names; have one example ready for any you have. Clear spoken English. BU requires a TOEFL score of every applicant and

grants no waivers. Practice your answers out loud, on a video call, until they sound natural rather than memorized. Your Why BU answer is in BU's own description. BU says its Advanced Standing curriculum "compresses the latter three years of the traditional four-year DMD program into two years," that the program "is fully integrated within the school," and that its students "complete the same clinical competencies prior to graduation as do the traditional four-year DMD students." Education at GSDM is competency-based, so students progress at their own pace and advance only after showing proficiency in each procedure, with a faculty mentorship model behind them. BU also points to opportunities in research, community service, mentorship and patient care, and its ADEA profile to community outreach and research in "the heart of Boston." specifically prepares you for. Behavioral Tell me about a difficult clinical case you managed. What made it challenging and how did you handle it? Use STAR structure (Situation Task Action Result) but add a Transition — connect the lesson to how it shapes your approach in a US clinical setting. Pick a case with genuine complexity not a textbook procedure. Describe a time you disagreed with a colleague or supervisor about a treatment plan. What happened? This tests professional maturity. Show that you can disagree respectfully advocate for your clinical reasoning and ultimately prioritize patient outcomes over ego. Include what you learned from the resolution. Tell me about a time you failed or made a significant mistake. What did you learn? Do not dodge this with a humble-brag. Name a real mistake — clinical academic or professional. Spend most of your answer on what you learned and what you changed as a result. Self-awareness is the

point of the question. How do you handle stress in a clinical environment? Be specific about your actual coping strategies — not theoretical ones. Reference a specific stressful clinical situation and walk through how you managed it. BU s program compresses the latter three years of the DMD into two so show you can sustain a demanding clinical and academic load. School-Specific What do you know about BU Goldman s curriculum for advanced standing students? Know BU s own two years ( 24 months) that compress the latter three years of the four-year DMD; a first year that blends the DMD s second and third years with didactic and preclinical laboratory courses; a second year that blends the third and fourth years with coursework and direct patient care; and a clinical component identical to the four-year program s. Pick the elements that appeal to you and connect them to how you learn. How will you handle the academic intensity of a 24-month

accelerated program? Acknowledge the challenge honestly. Reference specific your study habits time management approach experience with intensive academic environments support systems you ll put in place. Show self-awareness not bravado. What questions do you have for me about the program? BU doesn t say whether its interviewers leave time for your questions so have 2–3 specific researched ones ready about the clinical rotations the Advanced Standing cohort the Simulation Learning Center or faculty mentorship. Save questions about your own file for asdent@bu.edu. Ethical / Scenario A patient asks you to perform a procedure you believe is not in their best interest. How do you handle it? Root your answer in informed consent and patient autonomy. Walk listen to the patient s request explain your clinical reasoning present alternatives document the conversation. Autonomy matters but the ADA Code names it as one of five principles that “may

at times need to be balanced against each other”: weigh it against nonmaleficence and beneficence and make sure the patient s decision is truly informed. You notice a fellow student cheating on an exam. What do you do? Structure around academic integrity and professional ethics. Address privately first if safe to do so then report through proper channels. Connect to the broader the dental profession depends on trust and academic integrity is the foundation of clinical trustworthiness. Curveball What is the biggest difference between dental practice in your home country and what you expect in the US? Be thoughtful and specific — not critical of your home country or naively idealistic about the US. Pick one meaningful difference (patient communication expectations evidence-based practice culture insurance systems scope of practice) and show that you ve thought deeply about the transition. If you don t get accepted to any advanced standing

program this cycle what will you do? Answer honestly. Show resilience and a backup plan that demonstrates continued commitment to your dental career. Programs want to see that you re motivated by genuine passion not desperation. Having a thoughtful Plan B actually strengthens your candidacy. Submit by October 15 2026 and complete your file fast BU s 2026-cycle deadline is the CAAPID submission deadline October 15 2026.
