LMU Dental School Interview: DMD Requirements & Cost

LMU College of Dental Medicine DMD guide from its own pages: requirements, cost and accreditation. Its admissions page describes no AADSAS interview.

LMU's DMD admissions page lists requirements for its two AADSAS pathways and describes no interview for them: no setting, dates, length, interviewers or format. Here is what LMU does publish, what applicants report, and how to prepare for any format. return ( <> LMU DMD Requirements and Cost Lincoln Memorial University's College of Dental Medicine (LMU-CDM) is in Knoxville, Tennessee, and it is a new program. A 2022 LMU news release says the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) "has granted initial accreditation" and that the program "will welcome its inaugural class on September 12, 2022," and LMU's DMD calendar lists "Inaugural Graduation Day" on May 16, 2026. Its DMD is "a full-time, continuous, 46-month cohort program," and LMU says it "will admit only one cohort per year." This is what LMU's pages say about the program: Figure. What LMU's pages say. Length. “a full-time, continuous, 46-month cohort program consisting of 276

credit hours, not including electives”; eleven consecutive semesters. Design. “a classical 2 + 2 design with Biomedical and Pre-clinical Oral Health Sciences in the first two years, while Clinical and Behavioral Sciences occupy D3 and D4”. Patient care. “more than 2,500 hours of direct patient care”; “The majority of clinical education takes place in the state-of-the-art LMU Tower Dental College in Knoxville, Tennessee”. Latest class that has started. The Class of '30: orientation week July 6–10, 2026, and fall semester courses beginning July 13, 2026 (LMU's 2026–27 calendar). LMU doesn't publish the Class of 2031's start date.. Class size, GPA and DAT averages, acceptance rate. Not published on the pages we read. Is LMU admitting for 2026–27? Its admissions page doesn't name a cycle. LMU's DMD admissions page is undated and names no cycle, and the pages we read publish no application deadline. What LMU does say is that the program

"will admit only one cohort per year," and its calendar shows the Class of '30 beginning courses on July 13, 2026. Separately, applicants report invitations for this cycle (see What applicants report below), but those are not LMU's words. To confirm that LMU is reviewing applications for the class that follows, email dental.admissions@lmunet.edu. Accreditation: LMU's pages use different words. LMU's DMD accreditation page says the college "is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of initial accreditation." Its catalog says the DMD program "has been granted accreditation status, indicating that the program meets or exceeds CODA standards for dental education," without the word "initial." LMU's undated GPA-pathway page still says the college "has applied for initial accreditation," and LMU's history timeline lists a "CODA Final Accreditation site visit scheduled: March 2026."

The pages we read don't say whether CODA has granted a different status since. Confirm the current status with CODA (coda.ada.org, which LMU's catalog lists) or with dental.admissions@lmunet.edu before you apply. Prerequisites and what LMU lists for AADSAS applicants LMU's DMD admissions page lists four pathways. Pathway 1 is for high school seniors (an eight-year BS/DMD route) and Pathway 2 is its “LMU Guaranteed Admissions Pathway (GPA),” which starts with an LMU undergraduate application. Pathways 3 (undergraduate admissions to the DMD program) and 4 (post-baccalaureate entry) apply through AADSAS, and the rest of this guide is about them. The page is undated. Course. Semester hours (LMU's list). General Biology (including lecture and lab). 8. Inorganic (General) Chemistry (including lecture and lab). 8. Organic Chemistry (including lecture and lab). 8. Physics (including lecture and lab). 8. English. 6. Recommended, not required:

Anatomy and Physiology; Biochemistry; Cellular and Molecular Biology; Histology. 4 each. Labs and grades: "Labs are required in all science prerequisites unless otherwise noted." Pathway 3 says "A C+ is the minimum grade needed for all required courses. However, a B or better is generally needed." Pathway 4 says its prerequisites and recommended courses "align with those of the previous pathway." Degree: Pathway 4 says "students must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year Institution." GPA: Pathway 3 says "Students must maintain at least a 3.3 (science) and 3.2 (non-science) GPA." Pathway 4 says "Applicants must report both a 3.3 science GPA and a total GPA of 3.2 or over on a 4.00 scale." See the callout below: the two differ. The DAT: Pathway 3 says the test "can be no more than three years old" and "Student must score a 410 or better." Pathway 4 says applicants "must have a 410 or higher academic average. The DAT

must have been taken in the three years prior to filling out the LMU-CDM Application." Shadowing: "60 observation/shadowing hours in a general dentist's office." Pathway 4 adds "before entering the DMD program"; Pathway 3 gives no date. Plan on having all 60 hours when you apply (the stricter reading, ours) and confirm with dental.admissions@lmunet.edu. Letters and applications: Pathway 3 says "the student will apply to LMU-CDM through the ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (ADEA AADSAS) for admission to the DMD program with three letters of recommendation," that "The student is required to complete the supplemental application," and "you must apply both through the LMU portal and through the ADEA portal. A student will not be accepted into the program if both applications are not completed." Pathway 4 says "Applicants must complete the LMU-CDM Supplementary Application." LMU's page doesn't state a fee for

either. Background check and drug testing: Pathway 3: "Applicants must pass the LMU-CDM criminal background check" and "Applicants must be drug-free, as evidenced through required drug testing (completed upon admission)." Pathway 4 puts both "prior to matriculation." Technical standards: five areas (observation, communication, motor, conceptual, integrative and quantitative, and behavioral and social), and "Students must attest to the ability to meet technical requirements." LMU's two AADSAS pathways word the GPA differently. Pathway 3 asks for a "3.2 (non-science)" GPA; Pathway 4 asks for "a total GPA of 3.2 or over." A non-science GPA and a total GPA are different measures: a total of 3.2 can hide a lower non-science GPA. Plan on the stricter reading, a 3.3 science GPA and a 3.2 non-science GPA, and confirm with dental.admissions@lmunet.edu. Neither page says whether LMU admits anyone who meets only the minimums; LMU publishes no

class averages. Which DAT scale is 410 on, and how old can the test be?. LMU doesn't name the scale or give an old-scale equivalent, and we don't add one. Since 1 March 2025 the ADA has used a 3-digit scale from 200 to 600 in 10-point increments, and a figure like 410 reads as a score on it. Pathway 3 says "a 410 or better" without saying which score; Pathway 4 says "a 410 or higher academic average." On age, Pathway 3 says the DAT "can be no more than three years old" without saying when the three years are counted; Pathway 4 counts "the three years prior to filling out the LMU-CDM Application." Plan on an Academic Average of at least 410 (Pathway 4's wording) on a DAT taken within three years of the day you would start, which is the stricter reading on age (ours). Because Pathway 3 doesn't say which score, the stricter reading there (also ours) is 410 or better on your other scores too; ask dental.admissions@lmunet.edu which score

Pathway 3 means. LMU's separate GPA-pathway page, for students enrolled in that pathway, has a different rule ("no more than one year old"). Accommodations: LMU's pages differ. LMU's admissions page says "Any student seeking accommodations must follow the established process for LMU through the Department of Accessible Education Services. No accommodation is available for the preclinical and clinical courses." Its catalog's technical standards say candidates "must demonstrate the ability to meet essential program requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, to be admitted, retained, and graduate." Read the admissions page's sentence as the stricter one, and ask dental.admissions@lmunet.edu before you apply if this affects you. CASPer or Kira?. LMU's DMD admissions page, its other DMD pages we read and the DMD pages of its catalog don't mention CASPer, Acuity Insights, Kira or any similar assessment. Besides AADSAS and your

coursework, what they do list includes the DAT, shadowing hours, three letters of recommendation (Pathway 3) and the supplemental application. What LMU projects the DMD will cost LMU's 2026–2027 cost of attendance page has a four-year projection for the Class of 2030, the class that began in July 2026. It has no table for the Class of 2031. The page says "All amounts are subject to change without notice. Assumes a 3% annual tuition increase." LMU's "Total Direct & Indirect Costs" also include living costs such as housing and food, which the page lists separately: Class of 2030 (LMU's projection). Tuition. Program fees. Total direct and indirect costs. Year 1 (Fall, Spring, Summer). $75,945. $15,081. $142,118. Year 2 (Fall, Spring, Summer). $78,225. $4,081. $133,074. Year 3 (Fall, Spring, Summer). $80,570. $4,081. $135,419. Year 4 (Fall, Spring). $82,990. $4,406. $132,740. Four-year total. $317,730. $27,649. $543,351. Questions about

requirements go to dental.admissions@lmunet.edu, the address LMU's admissions page gives. The LMU Interview: What the College Says No interview is described for the AADSAS pathways. LMU's DMD admissions page lists the requirements for Pathways 3 and 4 and says nothing about an interview: no setting, dates, length, interviewers or format, and no statement that every applicant is interviewed. The page is undated, and we read only the pages named in our research notes. Where LMU does name an interview. Pathway 1, for high school seniors, lists "Initial Admissions Interview with LMU-CDM Admissions Committee (During Senior Year)." LMU's separate GPA-pathway page says students enrolled in LMU's GPA pathway who "apply to the Pathway through ADEA AADSAS are guaranteed an interview if they meet the Pathways criteria for application and admission. Completion of an interview does not guarantee an offer for admission," and lists an "Interview with

the LMU-CDM Admissions Committee." LMU doesn't explain how either relates to the AADSAS pathways. A chalk-carving score, on the GPA-pathway page only. That page lists "Chalk Carving Exercise: Student Must Score a Minimum of 70%." It isn't on the DMD admissions page's Pathways 3 or 4, and the pages we read don't say whether it applies to applicants outside that pathway. What LMU doesn't publish. Whether the interview is virtual or in person, when interviews run, how many interviewers there are, how long it lasts, whether it is open or closed file, what is asked, whether it is by invitation, and how soon decisions follow. Who to ask. LMU's admissions page says "Have questions about the admissions process? Email dental.admissions@lmunet.edu!" What applicants report These are posts on a public applicant forum, and an invite tracker that a forum volunteer compiles there from applicants' reports, not LMU's words. Each post is one applicant's:

This cycle (2026–27): the forum's invite tracker (compiled by a volunteer from applicants' reports), last updated 25 September 2026, lists LMU's first invitations on 22 July, a first interview date of 5 August, in person. The forum's Class of 2031 thread for LMU held four posts when we read it on 9 October 2026, and none reports a July invitation. In it, one out-of-state applicant posted on 8 October 2026 that they were notified of an interview by phone call that day, and listed "Interview method: in person"; no interview date was given. Last cycle (2025–26): the tracker listed LMU's first invitations on 21 September 2025, a first interview date of "TBD," in person. In the forum's Class of 2030 thread (16 posts to 4 March 2026), one out-of-state applicant posted on 21 September 2025 a phone-call notification that day and "Method of interview: In-Person"; another out-of-state applicant posted on 5 October 2025 a phone-call notification

dated 1 October and "Method of interview: In-Person." Both used the thread's template fields. On 27 January 2026 one applicant posted that they "Applied mid August" and "still haven't heard anything back." On 2 March 2026 one applicant asked "are they still interviewing?" and on 4 March another answered "Yes." Neither thread describes the interview itself: the interviewers, the length or the questions. On 8 June 2026 one applicant posted in the Class of 2031 thread "LMU is fully accredited now." The LMU accreditation page we read says "initial accreditation." Confirm the status with CODA or LMU. What this means for your preparation. LMU hasn't told AADSAS applicants how its interview works, so don't borrow a format from another school or from a forum post. Ask dental.admissions@lmunet.edu what to expect, read your invitation closely, and prepare answers that work in any format: your story, why dentistry, why LMU, and how you handle

stress, teamwork and ethical questions, which are the areas LMU's technical standards describe. Practice Your LMU Answers Out Loud. LMU's Admissions Timeline: What It Publishes LMU's pages we read publish few dates, and none of the dates below is an application deadline. The rows follow no order LMU states. When. What LMU says. Summer before the last year of college. Pathway 3: “During the summer before the last year of college, the student will apply to LMU-CDM through the ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (ADEA AADSAS) for admission to the DMD program with three letters of recommendation.”. Application

Drug testing (Pathway 3: “completed upon admission”; Pathway 4: “prior to matriculation”) and the criminal background check (Pathway 4: “prior to matriculation”; Pathway 3 gives no time). By May 15 of the matriculating year. Health documents: “It is expected that this documentation will be provided by the matriculating student to the Admissions Office, along with other required admissions documents, by May 15 of the matriculating year, unless extenuating circumstances exist.” (LMU's catalog page on its admissions office). July 6–10 and July 13, 2026. The Class of '30's orientation week and first day of fall semester courses (LMU's 2026–27 calendar); a summer start. The Class of 2031's start. Not published; a start about a year after the Class of '30's is our arithmetic, not

LMU's. Two applications, and no published deadline. LMU's page says "you must apply both through the LMU portal and through the ADEA portal. A student will not be accepted into the program if both applications are not completed." It also names a supplemental application. Because the pages we read give no deadline and don't say whether LMU reviews applications on a rolling basis, ask dental.admissions@lmunet.edu for the dates before you plan around any. What LMU Looks For LMU doesn't publish interview criteria. What it does publish is its mission and the technical standards for admission, which describe the abilities and personal qualities it expects. They are not described as interview criteria, but they make the best checklist for your answers: Communication: LMU's admissions page says "The candidate must communicate effectively, efficiently, and sensitively in both oral and written form and perceive nonverbal communication." The

catalog adds "Communicate effectively in spoken and written English" and "Interact professionally with patients, faculty, staff, and peers." Problem solving: "The candidate must be able to problem-solve, measure, calculate, reason, analyze, record, and synthesize large amounts of information in a timely manner," and the catalog lists "Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in clinical decision-making." Practice talking through a problem out loud. Personal qualities: "Compassion, integrity, concern for others, effective interpersonal skills, willingness, an ability to function as an effective team player, and interest and motivation to learn are all personal qualities required during the educational process." Stress and change: "The candidate must tolerate physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing workloads and function effectively under stress," and "must be able to adapt to changing environments, display flexibility, and

learn to function in the face of uncertainties." Have a specific example of each. Self-evaluation: the catalog lists "Evaluate their own performance and implement strategies for improvement." Ethics and respect: the catalog lists "Adherence to ethical principles, patient confidentiality, and professional standards" and "Respect for individuals of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and values." Serving underserved communities: LMU's mission says "Our focus is on improving oral and overall health in underserved communities," and its history page says the university accepted the challenge "to provide dental education to the students in Appalachia and beyond and oral health care to some of the 2.2 million people who do not have access to oral health care in Appalachia and East Tennessee." The best Why LMU material is in its mission and its curriculum. LMU's vision is to prepare graduates who are "clinically competent, ethically grounded, and

trained in advanced dental implant therapy to meet the evolving oral health needs of the communities they serve," with an emphasis it ties to "underserved and rural communities." Its curriculum is "largely modeled after Bruner's spiral curriculum approach"; in the fourth year, "students are assigned to external dental practice rotations as part of CDM Community-Based Dental Education (CBDE) Program," and "students are engaged in Community Outreach activities during all four years." LMU names partners such as Remote Area Medical and Appalachian Miles for Smiles. It is also a young program, so connect one of these specifics to how you want to learn and whom you want to serve. The practice questions below are ours, built on these criteria. LMU does not publish its interview

questions and its DMD admissions page describes no interview for AADSAS applicants so these are our practice questions built on the abilities and qualities its technical standards and mission describe. Its standards say “The candidate must communicate effectively efficiently and sensitively in both oral and written form.” Build a 90-second answer that stands on its who you are the experiences that led you to dentistry and why LMU is the next step. Why dentistry? LMU lists “60 observation/shadowing hours in a general dentist s office.” Anchor your answer in something specific you saw while shadowing then say what it confirmed for you about the profession. Why LMU? Use what LMU says about its a mission of “improving oral and overall health in underserved communities ” fourth-year rotations in its Community-Based Dental Education (CBDE) Program Community Outreach activities “during all four years ” and partners such as Remote Area Medical

and Appalachian Miles for Smiles. LMU is also a young program so connect one specific to how you want to learn and whom you want to serve; the location alone is not a reason. Why do you want to care for underserved or rural patients? LMU s history page says the university accepted the challenge “to provide dental education to the students in Appalachia and beyond and oral health care to some of the 2.2 million people who do not have access to oral health care in Appalachia and East Tennessee ” and its vision names “underserved and rural communities.” Describe one real experience with such patients or communities and what it taught you rather than speaking in general terms. Behavioral Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team. LMU s technical standards list “an ability to function as an effective team player” among the personal qualities required. Keep the setup short say what your role was and how you handled a disagreement or a

gap in the team and say what the team achieved. Describe a time you worked under heavy pressure. How did you handle it? LMU s standards say “The candidate must tolerate physically mentally and emotionally taxing workloads and function effectively under stress.” Choose a real example say what you did to keep functioning and be honest about what you would do differently. Tell me about a time your plans changed and you had to adapt. LMU s standards say a candidate “must be able to adapt to changing environments display flexibility and learn to function in the face of uncertainties.” Show the change your first reaction the adjustment you made and the result. Tell me about feedback you received and what you did with it. LMU s catalog lists “Evaluate their own performance and implement strategies for improvement.” Pick feedback that was hard to hear say what you changed and show the evidence that it worked. Ethical / Scenario A patient needs

treatment they cannot afford. What do you do? LMU s mission focuses on “improving oral and overall health in underserved communities.” Acknowledge the patient without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community clinic and never lower the standard of care. Show your reasoning; a question like this rarely has a single right answer. A patient from a different background refuses the treatment you recommend. How do you respond? LMU s catalog lists “Respect for individuals of diverse backgrounds cultures and values.” Ask what is behind the refusal explain the risks in plain words respect the patient s right to decide and document the conversation. A friend asks about a patient you saw in clinic. What do you say? LMU s catalog lists “Adherence to ethical principles patient confidentiality and professional standards.” Decline politely without hinting and explain why a patient s trust depends on it even when the

question seems harmless. You make a mistake during a procedure that the patient may not notice. What do you do? Tell your supervising dentist right away put the patient s health first and be honest with the patient about what happened and how it will be corrected. Say why integrity matters when patients trust your license; LMU s standards list “Compassion integrity concern for others.” Ask LMU what to expect before you assume a format LMU s DMD admissions page describes no interview for its AADSAS pathways and the pages we read publish no setting dates length interviewers or format. Email dental.admissions@lmunet.edu the address the page gives read your invitation closely and don t borrow a format from another school or from one applicant s forum post. Complete both applications LMU says “you must apply both through the LMU portal and through the ADEA portal. A student will not be accepted into the program if both applications are not

completed ” and Pathway 3 adds “The student is required to complete the supplemental application.” The pages we read publish no deadline so ask for the dates before you plan around any. Plan on the stricter reading where LMU s pages differ For GPA plan on a 3.3 science and a 3.2 non-science GPA not just a 3.2 total. For the DAT plan on an Academic Average of at least 410 (Pathway 4 s wording) on a test taken within three years of the day you would start (the stricter reading on age is ours); Pathway 3 doesn t say which score so the stricter reading there (also ours) is 410 or better on your other scores too and ask which score it means. LMU gives no old-scale equivalent for its 410; the ADA has used the 200–600 scale since March 2025. Prepare answers that work in any format LMU s technical standards describe communication problem solving teamwork flexibility under stress ethics and compassion and its mission centers on underserved

communities. Practice telling your story explaining why dentistry and why LMU and talking through a scenario out loud with one specific example of serving underserved patients ready. The forum s invite tracker which a volunteer compiles from applicants reports lists LMU as “In person” for both 2025–26 and 2026–27 (reported not LMU s word). In the forum s Class of 2031 thread one applicant posted on 8 October 2026 that they were notified of an interview by phone call that day and listed “Interview in person ” using the thread s template; no interview date was given. for 2026–27? LMU s DMD admissions page is undated and names no cycle so we can t quote LMU for 2026–27. What LMU s catalog does say is that the program “will admit only one cohort per year ” and its calendar shows the Class of 30 beginning courses on July 13 2026. Applicants report invitations this cycle which is indirect evidence not LMU s the forum s invite tracker compiled by a volunteer from applicants reports and last updated 25 September 2026 lists first invitations on 22 July (the Class of 2031 thread s four posts read on 9 October 2026 include no July invitation) and in that thread one applicant posted an invitation on 8 October 2026. Confirm with dental.admissions@lmunet.edu. Does LMU require CASPer or Kira for dental school? LMU s DMD admissions page its other DMD pages we read and the DMD pages of its catalog don t mention CASPer Acuity Insights Kira or any similar assessment. Besides AADSAS and your coursework what they do

list includes the DAT shadowing hours three letters of recommendation (Pathway 3) the supplemental application a background check and drug testing. What GPA and DAT do I need for LMU dental school? Pathway 3 says “at least a 3.3 (science) and 3.2 (non-science) GPA” and Pathway 4 says “both a 3.3 science GPA and a total GPA of 3.2 or over ” so plan on the stricter 3.2 non-science reading. For the DAT Pathway 3 says “a 410 or better” and Pathway 4 “a 410 or higher academic average” (Pathway 3 doesn t say which aiming for 410 on your other scores too is the stricter reading ours; ask dental.admissions@lmunet.edu); LMU names no scale and gives no old-scale equivalent and the ADA has used a 200–600 scale since 1 March 2025. The test can be “no more than three years old” (Pathway 3) or taken “in the three years prior to filling out the LMU-CDM Application” (Pathway 4); counting to the day you would start is the stricter reading (ours). LMU

also lists 60 observation/shadowing hours in a general dentist s office and publishes no class GPA or DAT averages. When is the LMU DMD application deadline? None is published on the pages we read. Pathway 3 says “During the summer before the last year of college the student will apply to LMU-CDM through the ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (ADEA AADSAS) ” and LMU also requires its own application and a supplemental application. The pages don t say whether LMU reviews applications on a rolling basis so email dental.admissions@lmunet.edu for the dates. Is LMU s dental school accredited? LMU s pages use different words. Its DMD accreditation page says the college “is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of initial accreditation.” Its catalog says the DMD program “has been granted accreditation status indicating that the program meets or exceeds CODA

standards for dental education.” An undated GPA-pathway page on its site still says the college “has applied for initial accreditation ” and its history page lists a “CODA Final Accreditation site visit March 2026.” The pages we read don t say whether CODA has granted a different status since so confirm with CODA (coda.ada.org) or dental.admissions@lmunet.edu. LMU s calendar lists “Inaugural Graduation Day” on May 16 2026. How much does LMU dental school cost? LMU s 2026–2027 cost of attendance page projects for the Class of 2030 tuition of $75 945 $78 225 $80 570 and $82 990 over the four years ($317 730 in all) program fees of $27 649 and total direct and indirect costs of $543 351 which include living costs. The page says “All amounts are subject to change without notice. Assumes a 3% annual tuition increase.” It has no table for the Class of 2031.
