UW asks you not to submit official transcripts until requested — they are collected on offer of admission, and become UW property.. The letter instruction is the one to act on early. Asking a former dean to write about your weakest characteristics and your class ranking is not a normal request, and it is not what they will write by default. Send them UW's wording directly. A letter that praises you fluently and answers none of it is a wasted slot, and UW accepts only the three you submit through CAAPID. Bench Test and Interview, Both in Summer UW states that bench testing and interview sessions are both conducted in summer 2026 , and that applicants selected for interview are notified as

early as possible specifically to help with travel scheduling. That last detail is a small kindness worth noting: it implies travel, and it implies UW knows you may be booking flights from abroad. UW does not publish its interview format. Unlike Michigan , which states outright that its advanced standing interview is an MMI, Washington publishes only that interviews happen. There is no statement of panel size, structure or length. Anyone quoting you a UW format is guessing — prepare for a conversation about your own file and your clinical background, and read your invitation when it comes. Seats? UW Says "A Small Number" Washington does not publish a figure. Its own words are that "only a small number of students will be accepted each year." ADEA's CAAPID finder lists 20 (estimate) . We are not going to reconcile those for you. It is the same situation as Harvard , where the school's own FAQ and ADEA also disagree. If the number matters to how you build your list — and with a $185 fee it reasonably might — ask the IDDS office directly before applying. Tests: Where UW Differs From Programs You May Already Have Checked Two differences matter, and both are the sort of thing people assume carries across from another program's rules. TOEFL — no Home Edition UW gives recommended scores on both scales: 100 or higher for exams taken before 21 January 2026, and 5.00 or higher for exams on or after that date. Scores must come through CAAPID. The catch: Home Edition and Best Result TOEFL are not accepted . Michigan explicitly does

accept the Home Edition — so if you sat it at home because one program allowed it, that score does not work here. UW also states that no waivers of the English proficiency preference may be given. Boards and credentials NBDE Parts I and II, or the INBDE. Both routes are accepted, and UW publishes no five-year recency rule. ECE or WES. Give scope and volume concretely → name the procedures → one case that

stretched you → what you learned. UW integrates you into a clerkship model so demonstrated independence matters. How current are your hand skills? Directly relevant — UW runs a bench test alongside the interview. Be specific about recent clinical volume and any refresher work. What will be hardest about practising in the US system? Name a real difference — record keeping referral patterns materials insurance → show you have thought about adapting rather than assuming transfer. Fit and motivation Why the University of Washington specifically? Something real about UW — the clerkship integration the patient population the Pacific Northwest → avoid anything that would apply to any program. How will you handle being integrated with predoctoral students? UW places you into the standard predoctoral clerkship model → show humility about relearning alongside them and what your clinical experience adds. Where do you intend to practise after

graduating? Washington licensure depends on DQAC approval so show you understand the licensure pathway rather than treating the degree as the finish line. UW states that bench testing and interview sessions are both conducted in the summer and that applicants selected for interview are notified as early as possible to make travel scheduling easier. There is no published statement of panel size structure or length so any source quoting a specific format is guessing. How many students does UW s IDDS program accept? UW does not publish a number stating only that a small number of students will be accepted each year. ADEA s CAAPID finder lists 20 as an estimate. The two do not agree so ask the IDDS office directly if the figure matters to your list. Does UW accept the TOEFL Home Edition? No. UW states that Home

Edition and Best Result TOEFL scores are not accepted and that no waivers of the English proficiency preference may be given. This differs from Michigan which does accept the Home Edition — so do not assume one program s rule carries across. What TOEFL score does UW recommend? For exams taken before 21 January 2026 a score of 100 or higher is strongly recommended. For exams taken on or after that date 5.00 or higher on the new scale. Scores must be submitted through CAAPID. What do UW s letters of recommendation need to say? Three letters in English on letterhead with full contact details written within 12 months of submission. At least one must come from a dental professional who has worked with you in the last 12 months. Unusually UW asks that letters address your strongest and weakest characteristics and indicate class ranking where possible — so brief your recommenders because that is not what they will write by default. Does UW

accept WES evaluations? Yes. UW accepts a course-by-course evaluation from either ECE or WES as Harvard does. Michigan and NYU by contrast require ECE and do not accept WES.
