Case Western Dental School Interview: DMD 2026-27
Case Western DMD guide from its own pages: CASPer by January 5, 2027, no review before scores, a required interview, and 2025 entering class stats.
Case Western requires CASPer, reviews no application until those scores arrive, and makes no offer without a personal interview with its faculty or staff. Here is what Case Western publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> Case Western DMD Requirements and Class Profile Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, in Cleveland, Ohio, runs a four-year DMD program. You apply through AADSAS only: Case Western has no secondary application, just a supplemental fee you pay directly to the school. It publishes the applications, interviews and matriculants behind its entering class of 2025, along with that class's GPA and DAT figures. Figure. Entering class of 2025. Note. DAT Perceptual Ability. Mean 445.84, median 450. 25th to 75th percentile: 410 to 477.50; 200–600 scale. Degrees. 65 BA/BS, 5 MA/MS/MPH. 10 more had 100–128 credits but no degree. Which DAT scale are these scores on?. The 200–600 scale the DAT has used since 1 March 2025. Case Western gives no old-scale figure for this class. Its page for the class that entered in 2024 used the old 1–30 scale: an Academic Average mean of 21.46 (median 21) and a Perceptual Ability mean of 20.69 (median 21). Those are a different class's scores, so don't read the two years as a conversion table. Why this guide gives no acceptance rate. Case Western publishes applications, interviews and how many students matriculated, not how many offers it made. 285 interviews from
1,836 applications is 15.5%; how many of those interviewed were offered a seat can't be worked out from its page. Prerequisite coursework Course. Minimum. General chemistry. 6 semester hours (2 semesters or 3 quarters of a sequential series). Organic chemistry. 6 semester hours (2 semesters or 3 quarters of a sequential series). Biology. 6 semester hours. Physics. 6 semester hours (2 semesters or 3 quarters of a sequential series). English, or similar reading/writing-intensive coursework in the humanities. 6 semester hours. A letter grade of C or better in every prerequisite (C- doesn't count), on an official university transcript. AP, IB and test-exemption credit don't satisfy a prerequisite: retake the course, or take an equal number of credits of upper-level coursework in the same discipline. At least 90 semester hours (or equivalent) of college coursework at an accredited institution, not counting physical education or military
training. At least 60 of them, and every prerequisite, must come from an accredited US or Canadian institution, and every prerequisite must have been taught in English. Up to 60 hours may come from community college, though Case Western strongly recommends upper-level coursework at a four-year institution that builds on them. A bachelor's degree is strongly encouraged before you start, and Case Western says successful applicants often graduate with one "to present a more complete record of academic performance and a more desirable application profile." In its entering class of 2025, 10 of the 80 had 100–128 credits but no degree. Recommended courses: statistics, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, advanced cell biology, histology and neuroscience (no concurrent lab needed), plus introductory ethics, business, psychology, sociology, epidemiology and cultural anthropology. Case Western also strongly encourages
mastery of critical foreign languages, including American Sign Language. Letters: Case Western "highly values and strongly prefers" an institutional evaluation, from your pre-health advisor, an evaluation committee or a post-baccalaureate program director. Without one, include two letters from science faculty who taught you (a research supervisor in a science also counts) and who know you well beyond the classroom. Letters from non-science faculty, work supervisors or clinical mentors can add to them, and all letters must arrive before your file is considered. Shadowing: Case Western's admissions pages set no number of hours. For the summer of the year before you apply, its timeline advises meeting with advisors to "identify final opportunities for working in clinical environments or schedule a dedicated community service experience," and it welcomes an evaluation from "a volunteer or clinical supervisor or mentor." The course list
doesn't say whether these courses need labs. If one of yours had none, ask dentadmit@case.edu before you apply. CASPer: Required, and Your File Waits for It Every applicant to Case Western's School of Dental Medicine must complete Acuity Insights Assessments. Case Western lists one part, CASPer, which it describes as a "90-110 minute online, open-response situational judgment test". It says the assessments measure "competencies and attributes that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program," and that they complement its other review tools. Rule. What Case Western says. Which test. The US Professional Health Sciences test (CSP-20100); no Canadian or other version is accepted. Deadline to take it. January 5, 2027. When review starts. Acuity's program directory listed January 19, 2027 for Case Western in August 2026. Case Western's own page says the deadline to take the assessment is January 5, 2027, two weeks earlier. Go by the school. And because your application isn't reviewed until your scores arrive, while interview invitations go out on a first-completed, first-considered basis, treat January 5 as the last possible date, not the target. The Case Western Interview: What the School Says It is required. In Case Western's words, "A personal interview with faculty or staff at CWRU School of Dental Medicine is required for an applicant's file to be considered for an offer of admission." Invitations are rolling: first completed, first considered. Case Western issues them "based solely on the information submitted in the AADSAS application including the collected letters of recommendation," and highly recommends that serious applicants submit their AADSAS applications
as early as possible. Interviews start in August. The Admissions Committee begins scheduling them in August, and Case Western's timeline says they begin "around mid-August to end of August." The same timeline lists scheduling interviews in the fall and spring of the application year as well. Fewer than 1 in 6 applicants was interviewed for the entering class of 2025: 285 interviews from 1,836 applications. Need to reschedule or cancel? Case Western calls telling the Office of Admissions "professional courtesy," and asks you to tell it early if you cancel, as a courtesy to other applicants. What applicants report These are posts on a public applicant forum, not Case Western's words. The forum's Case Western interview-and-acceptance threads for the last two cycles hold few posts, and none describes the interview itself: Last cycle (2025–26): on 13 November 2025 an applicant wrote that they had last heard in early September that their
application was complete, and were still waiting. On 15 December 2025 an applicant posted that they had been "accepted last night via email!" On 21 April 2026 an applicant asked whether anyone had heard anything after being put on "Continued Review." This cycle (2026–27): the thread held only its opening post as of 6 October 2026. What Case Western doesn't publish. Whether the interview is in person or virtual, how long it lasts, whether it is one-on-one, a panel or stations, whether your interviewer has read your file, and what is asked. Case Western says only that it is a personal interview with faculty or staff. If your invitation doesn't give the setting and format, ask dentadmit@case.edu. Classes begin. Case Western says it intends to keep seats available until all interviews are conducted, "but it may not always be possible to do so." The files of well-qualified applicants it isn't yet ready to make offers to stay "under review." Others are placed on an Alternate List. Applicants on a separate Hold List may be considered if everyone on the Alternate List receives an offer and pays a deposit, and Case Western says it is "rare" for applicants on the Hold List to be granted an offer of admission. To secure a seat you pay a non-refundable $1,000 deposit, applied to first-year tuition. An offer is valid only for a limited time, and a request to defer entry is considered only after your deposit arrives. Two dates for first offers. Case Western's application checklist says it "strives to send out the first offers of admission on approximately December 15," but its Timeline to Apply page says "The first round of offers will be
sent around December 1st." Be ready to respond from December 1, and don't read silence before mid-December as a no. One applicant reported an acceptance by email on the night of 14 December 2025. To confirm this cycle's date, email dentadmit@case.edu. What Case Western Looks For Case Western says its successful applicants are "uniquely excellent in their pre-professional competencies as evaluated holistically through our admissions process," and that its matriculants articulate attributes "such as respect, integrity and responsibility, initiative and curiosity, creative teamwork and consensus building, dedication to service, cultural acceptance, and self-management." Each can anchor an interview answer: Integrity and responsibility: have an example of owning a mistake, or of doing the right thing when it cost you something. Initiative and curiosity: Case Western is interested in students who "Take responsibility for their own learning,"
so show something you set out to learn without being told to. Creative teamwork and consensus building: its curriculum includes small-group, problem-based discussion sessions, so bring a story of a group that disagreed and how you helped it reach a decision. Dedication to service: talk about service you kept up over time, and the people it served. Self-management: show how you handled competing demands, and what you changed when your approach wasn't working. Its DMD page adds that it is interested in students who "Enjoy an active learning environment that includes group work" and "Understand the dentist's responsibility to patients, community, and society." The best Why Case Western material is in its REAL curriculum. REAL stands for Relevant Experiential Active Learning. Case Western describes a small-group learning environment where students share responsibility for learning, with problem-based discussion sessions that complement
lectures. First-year students take part in the Healthy Smiles Sealant Program, performing dental exams and placing sealants for second-, third- and sixth-grade students at Cleveland-area schools. They also take part in interprofessional education throughout the first year, on a Health Education Campus meant to foster collaboration among future health care professionals from fields including medicine, nursing, physician assistant and social work. In the third and fourth years, students work in practice groups, much like a small group practice, each with two faculty preceptors, and every fourth-year student is expected to develop a business plan for a hypothetical practice. Connect one of these to how you want to learn. The practice questions below are ours, built on these criteria. Case Western does not publish its interview questions. Internationally trained dentist? Case Western does not publish its interview questions; these are practice questions built on what it says it looks for. It does not say whether your interviewer has read your application either so build a 90-second arc that works both ways covering who you are the two or three experiences that led you to dentistry and why Case Western is the next step. Why dentistry? Case Western is interested in students who “Understand the dentist s responsibility to patients community and society.” Anchor your answer in something you
saw or did then say what it showed you about that responsibility. Why Case Western? Use what Case Western says about its program such as the REAL curriculum s small-group problem-based discussion sessions the first-year Healthy Smiles Sealant Program in Cleveland-area schools interprofessional education on the Health Education Campus and third- and fourth-year practice groups with two faculty preceptors each. Connect one of them to how you want to learn; praise for the name is not a reason. How do you learn best? Case Western is interested in students who “Take responsibility for their own learning” and “Enjoy an active learning environment that includes group work.” Give one example of learning on your own and one of learning in a group and say why that suits a small-group curriculum. Behavioral Tell me about a time you helped a group reach a decision when people disagreed. Case Western names “creative teamwork and consensus building”
among the attributes its matriculants articulate. Keep the setup short and spend most of the answer on how you moved the group and what you would do again. Describe something you set out to learn without being asked. Case Western also names “initiative and curiosity.” Say what you chose to learn and why how you went about it and what you did with it. Tell me about a mistake you made and how you handled it. Case Western names “integrity and responsibility” too. Be specific about what went wrong what you did about it and what you do differently now. Tell me about service you have done in your community. Case Western lists “dedication to service” as well. Choose service you kept up over time and talk about the people it served rather than the hours. Ethical / Scenario A member of your small group isn t doing their share. What do you do? Case Western describes a small-group learning environment where students share responsibility for
learning. Show that you would talk to the person first and find out why and bring in the facilitator only if that fails. A patient needs treatment they cannot afford. What do you do? Acknowledge the patient without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community clinic and never lower the standard of care. Show your reasoning; a question like this rarely has a single right answer. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation to the proper channels and say why integrity matters when patients trust your license. A patient refuses the treatment you recommend. How do you respond? Balance the patient s right to decide with their wellbeing. Explain clearly find out what worries them offer alternatives document the conversation and do not abandon the patient. Take CASPer early; your file waits for it Case Western s deadline to take CASPer is January
5 2027 but its committee won t review your application until your scores arrive and interview invitations go out on a “first-completed first-considered” basis. Book an early test date as Case Western encourages and register for the US Professional Health Sciences test (CSP-20100) the only version it accepts. Complete your AADSAS application early Case Western issues interview invitations on a rolling basis “based solely on the information submitted in the AADSAS application including the collected letters of recommendation ” and highly recommends that serious applicants submit as early as possible. All letters must arrive before your file is considered so give your letter writers an early deadline too. Pay the supplemental fee with your exact AADSAS ID There is no secondary application but Case Western matches its supplemental fee to your file only by the AADSAS ID you enter; if it can t the fee isn t processed and your file doesn t
advance. If you ve applied for an AADSAS fee waiver Case Western prefers that you not pay until you can forward the waiver letter to dentadmit@case.edu and says the delay won t put your application at a disadvantage. Prepare to introduce yourself from scratch Case Western doesn t say whether your interviewer has read your file or whether the interview is in person or virtual.
