Ohio State Dental School Interview: DDS 2026-27

Ohio State DDS guide from its own pages: interviews in October and November, offers on or after Dec 15, GPA and DAT minimums, and two conflicting deadlines.

Ohio State interviews by invitation in October and November, emails invitations about four to five weeks ahead, and communicates offers on or after December 15. Here is what Ohio State publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> Ohio State DDS Requirements and Class Profile The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, in Columbus, calls itself the first state-supported dental school in Ohio. Its DDS runs four years, D1 to D4, and its curriculum "includes 11 semesters of instruction." You apply through AADSAS. Once Ohio State has your verified AADSAS application, and if you meet its minimums, its Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions emails you a link to a supplemental application, due two weeks after you receive it. Ohio State's DDS page profiles its newest published class, the Class of 2029, which started in August 2025: Figure. What Ohio State publishes. Where. Entering class size, Class of 2029.

An overall GPA of 3.6, a science GPA of 3.5 and “DAT scores of 20” (scale not labeled; old 1–30 scale). The university's Graduate and Professional Admissions page. Which DAT scale?. Two scales appear on Ohio State's pages, and it labels neither. The Class of 2029's DAT AA of 20.9 and the "DAT scores of 20" called competitive are on the old 1–30 scale: no score on the 200–600 scale the DAT now uses can be 20.9 or 20. Ohio State gives no new-scale equivalent for them, and we don't convert one. Its minimums (370, 360 and 380, below) are three-digit scores on the new 200–600 scale;

it gives no old-scale equivalent for those either, and its pages don't say how it applies them to a score on the old scale. If your DAT is on the old scale, ask dentistryadmissions@osu.edu. Why this guide gives no acceptance rate. Ohio State publishes its entering class size and says it expects to interview over 250 applicants this cycle, but it publishes no counts of applications or offers, so no acceptance rate can be worked out from its pages. Ohio State screens before it reviews: "A candidate must meet certain minimum criteria. A student's application will not be reviewed unless it meets the minimum standards." Its minimums are: GPA: a total GPA of 3.0 and a science GPA of 3.0. Below that, Ohio State says you "may be considered for an interview" if you have completed an advanced degree with at least a 3.5 GPA, or have at least a 3.5 in your last 45 hours of coursework. DAT: Academic Average 370, Perceptual Ability 360 and SNS 380

(the university's admissions page calls the last one Total Science), on the 200–600 scale. That page adds: "All minimums listed above must be met with the most recent test date." You must take the DAT before your application is complete, and Ohio State doesn't accept the Canadian DAT. The oldest DAT it considers: "Three years from the date in which the application is received." Coursework: a minimum number of college hours, which Ohio State's two pages give differently (see below). Not a guarantee: the university's admissions page says "Meeting all minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview invitation." 60 or 90 semester hours? Ohio State's pages disagree. The College of Dentistry's application page asks for a "Minimum of 60 semester (90 quarter) hours completed at an accredited institution." The university's Graduate and Professional Admissions page for the DDS says a bachelor's degree is preferred, "however, an applicant

must complete a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited four-year college or university," and that a major with "a strong science core such as biology or chemistry is beneficial." The stricter reading is 90 semester hours at an accredited four-year college or university. Confirm with dentistryadmissions@osu.edu. In state or out of state? Ohio State's DDS admissions pages state no residency requirement or preference for admission, and publish no count of in-state students. The residency rules they give are for tuition: "Students who are not considered Ohio residents do not benefit from the tuition subsidy funded by Ohio tax payers," though they may apply for in-state residency if they meet any of the Ohio Board of Regents guidelines, typically after living in Ohio for twelve consecutive months. Ohio State's estimated 2026–2027 cost of attendance for the first year (D1, nine months), not including health insurance, is $86,222 for an

Ohio resident and $145,636 for a non-resident, including a non-resident surcharge of $58,786. A graduate of an Ohio high school who went to college outside Ohio, or has moved out of state since, is a "Forever Buckeye," a resident of Ohio for tuition. Prerequisite coursework Ohio State counts 12 prerequisite courses and lists them by its own course numbers: Subject. Ohio State's course numbers. Anatomy. Anatomy 2300 or 3300, or EEOB 2510 or 2511. Physiology. Physiology 3200, EEOB 2520 or PHR 3100. Biochemistry. Biochemistry 4511 or PHR 3200. Biology. Biology 1113 and 1114. General chemistry. Chemistry 1210 and 1220, or 1206, 1208 and 1220. Organic chemistry. Organic Chemistry 2510 and 2520. English composition. English/Comp 1110.01. Microbiology. Microbiology 4000. Physics. Physics 1200. At least 8 of the 12 before you apply. "To be eligible to apply to Ohio State’s DDS program, you must complete 8 of the 12 prerequisite courses prior to

submitting your application." If you are accepted, all of them must be complete before classes start, each with a C or better. Science courses from the last 10 years. All science prerequisites must be completed within 10 years of your application: "if a student applies in the 2026-2027 cycle, any courses taken before Fall 2016 would not be accepted." Labs: a lab is required only when it is part of the course number; a lab listed as a separate course number isn't. An anatomy and physiology "combo" course satisfies both only if you complete both semesters. Where: prerequisites "must be completed at an accredited, educational, English-speaking institution within the United States or Canada." To check a course, Ohio State points you to its Course Evaluation Website (for Ohio schools), then Transferology, then its Program Prerequisite Evaluation Form: one evaluation per applicant, about a month to process, and not for those who have already

applied. Dental experience: "Prior to applying, every candidate must complete a minimum of 40 hours of dental experience. However, the average number of hours for students that are admitted is about 120." Paid or unpaid work counts where you observed patient care, interacted with practitioners or had responsibility for patient care. Without the 40 hours, your application is incomplete and "you will not be considered for an interview." Letters, through AADSAS only: at least two, and no more than four. "One letter must be from a college faculty member," and reviewers prefer PhD-level science professors. The other can come from someone who knows you well and isn't a relative, such as an academic advisor, a coach, a manager or a dentist you shadowed. A committee letter is accepted if a committee member teaches science. No letters from family or friends, and "All letters must be received before the October 1 deadline." Non-academic

experiences: Ohio State calls them "a very important part of your profile" and asks you to report them on AADSAS: volunteering, community service, research, leadership, sports, co- and extra-curricular activities, and work, military and teaching experience. Re-applying? To be considered as a re-applicant, Ohio State requires an additional 20 hours of observation and one more letter of reference, from someone not used in your previous cycle. It strongly encourages a re-applicant advising session, held from January to February, and says scheduling one has no weight in future admission decisions. DentPath: a one-year post-baccalaureate program, open to all applicants and designed to increase the representation of students from educationally or socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, "particularly those who demonstrate a strong commitment to serving underserved communities." You can indicate your interest on the application, and

"Students who complete the DentPath program are automatically accepted to the DDS program at Ohio State." 8 of 12, or all of them? Ohio State's pages differ. The College of Dentistry's application page lets you apply with 8 of the 12 prerequisites complete and finish the rest before classes start. The university's Graduate and Professional Admissions page says specific prerequisite courses must be completed, with a C or better, "prior to applying." Go by the stricter reading: have as many done as you can, and never fewer than 8, when you apply, and confirm your plan with dentistryadmissions@osu.edu. CASPer or Kira?. Ohio State's DDS admissions pages and the university's Graduate and Professional Admissions page for the DDS don't mention CASPer, Acuity Insights, Kira or any similar assessment. What they ask for is AADSAS, the minimums above, at least 40 hours of dental experience, letters, the supplemental application and, if you are

invited, an interview. Ohio State's Office of Admissions is at dentistryadmissions@osu.edu or 614-292-3361, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and its site has a "Submit Questions to Admissions" form. Its calendar lists virtual DDS overview sessions on Zoom on October 15 and November 12, 2026, and a 30-minute tour of Postle Hall, led by current dental students, for prospective applicants on October 27, 2026 (registration required). The Ohio State Interview: What the College Says By invitation only. "Dental school applicants are selected to interview by invitation only." To be considered, you must meet the minimums, and the university's admissions page adds that meeting them "does not guarantee an interview invitation." About four to five weeks' notice, by email. "Notifications are sent via email approximately 4 – 5 weeks prior to the designated interview date. Emails will provide all interview related details regarding scheduling

instructions, location, and pre-interview programming." Ohio State's application tips ask you to add @osu.edu to your email safe list. October and November. "Interviews will take place throughout the months of October and November": October and November 2026, this cycle. Ohio State's undated re-applicant checklist warns that the later you apply, "the less likely you are to be considered for all four interview dates." Its application page doesn't list the dates. Over 250 interviewees expected. "We anticipate interviewing over 250 applicants this admission cycle." It publishes no count of offers. Offers on or after December 15. Offers are communicated to candidates "on or after December 15th": December 15, 2026, this cycle. What it counts for. The university's Graduate and Professional Admissions page lists the interview among the items "The College of Dentistry evaluates" in deciding admissibility, alongside the minimums, your

coursework, your letters, your observation hours and the "Overall strength of your application file including personal statement, essays, volunteer and community service, co- and extra-curricular involvement, work experience, etc." In person or virtual? Ohio State doesn't say. Ohio State's application page says the invitation email gives the location, but none of its DDS pages says whether the interview is in person or virtual, how many people interview you, for how long, or what the "pre-interview programming" involves. An older interview page on its site now returns an access-denied error, so this guide uses nothing from it. The in-person interview and bench skill test on Ohio State's website belong to its International Dentist Track for internationally trained dentists, not the DDS. The forum's invite tracker (compiled by a volunteer from applicants' reports) lists Ohio State's interviews as in person in both recent cycles (see

below). Go by your invitation, and ask dentistryadmissions@osu.edu if it's unclear. What applicants report These come from a public applicant forum and the invite tracker that a forum volunteer compiles there from applicants' reports, not from Ohio State: This cycle (2026–27): the tracker, last updated 25 September 2026, lists Ohio State's first invitations on 27 August and a first interview date of 3 October, in person. On 23 September 2026, one applicant asked in the forum's Ohio State thread when "the second round of interview invites" would come out. No post in that thread reports an invitation. Last cycle (2025–26): the tracker, last updated 22 October 2025, lists first invitations on 8 August 2025 and a first interview on 20 September 2025, in person: earlier than the October and November window Ohio State gives for this cycle (its page doesn't say what last cycle's window was). On 9 August 2025, the tracker's compiler posted in

the thread that the "First round of interviews got sent out yesterday," and on 26 September 2025 one applicant asked, "Has anybody heard anything about any more interview dates for Ohio State?" The tracker's two first interview dates, 20 September 2025 and 3 October 2026, were both Saturdays. Ohio State doesn't say on which days it interviews. On 12 November 2025, one applicant posted that they had "Just got rejected," without saying whether they had interviewed. None of the seven posts in the forum's two Ohio State threads describes the interview itself: in person or virtual, how many interviewers, how long, or what was asked. What Ohio State doesn't publish. How its interview runs: one conversation or several, with whom, for how long, whether your interviewers have read your application, and what is asked. It does say what the College evaluates: your grades and scores, coursework, letters, dental experience, personal statement and

essays, service, activities and work, and the interview. Reread your whole AADSAS application and your supplemental essays before the day, and be ready to talk about any part of them. What Ohio State says. October 1, 2026. The deadline on the College of Dentistry's application page: your AADSAS application “complete, verified and sent by AADSAS” to Ohio State, and all letters received (of letters it adds: “Items submitted after the deadline will not be used to evaluate applicants”). October 15, 2026. The deadline the university's Graduate and Professional Admissions

page lists for autumn 2027, for US and international applicants (see below). Once Ohio State has your verified AADSAS application. If you meet its minimums, an email from the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions with a link to the supplemental application, “due 2 weeks after receiving your invitation”. About 4–5 weeks before your interview date. An interview invitation by email, with scheduling instructions, the location and pre-interview programming. October and November 2026. Interviews, by invitation; Ohio State expects to interview over 250 applicants. On or after December 15, 2026. Offers communicated to candidates. February 1 or 15, 2027. FAFSA: its residency and costs page gives February 1 as the deadline “of each year”; its DDS page says incoming students who submit the FAFSA by February 15 are considered for College of Dentistry scholarships. File by February 1 to be safe. Before classes start in autumn 2027. All

prerequisite courses complete, each with a C or better. October 1 or October 15?. Ohio State's own pages disagree. The College of Dentistry's application page gives October 1 throughout: you must have "all application materials completed and submitted to us by October 1," your AADSAS application "must be complete, verified and sent by AADSAS to us by the October 1, deadline," and letters must arrive "before the October 1 deadline." The university's Graduate and Professional Admissions page lists October 15, 2026, for autumn 2027. Go by October 1, the stricter date, and note that it means verified by AADSAS, not just submitted. October 1 has passed: if you haven't applied, email dentistryadmissions@osu.edu before counting on October 15. The Ohio State pages we read give no enrollment deposit, waitlist process or start date for the DDS; the university's admissions page lists this cycle's application term as autumn 2027. What Ohio State

Looks For The university's Graduate and Professional Admissions page lists what "The College of Dentistry evaluates" in deciding whether an applicant is admissible: the minimums, your coursework and prerequisites, your letters, at least 40 hours of observation, the "Overall strength of your application file including personal statement, essays, volunteer and community service, co- and extra-curricular involvement, work experience, etc." and the interview. The College's own pages, and the technical standards every student must meet, say more about the person it wants. Each can anchor an interview answer: Varied dental experience: Ohio State says "It is important to diversify your experiences (typically 120 hours is completed with 5 or 6 practitioners)." Be ready to compare what you saw in different practices, not just to recount one. A life outside academics: "To be a good fit for dentistry, you need to have outside interests, other than

academics." Have one interest you can talk about in real detail. Character: Ohio State tells you to choose your second letter writer by who "can speak directly toward your character," and its technical standards ask students to "conduct themselves with integrity, respect, compassion, tolerance and acceptance of others in their interactions with patients, peers, staff, and faculty members at all times." Have an example of treating someone with respect when it was hard. Taking feedback: the standards ask students to "accept feedback and respond by appropriate modification of behavior" and to "be responsible and accountable in behavior and actions." Have an example of feedback you acted on, and of owning a mistake. Communicating with patients: students must be able to "explain treatment procedures and alternative solutions; obtain informed consent" and communicate "with a degree of sensitivity towards patients." Practice explaining

something technical in plain words. Teamwork and flexibility: students must "work and function as a collaborative, effective, and productive team member" and "display flexibility." Ohio State calls its program "not competitive," saying your fellow students become "your closest friends and confidantes." Bring a team story in which you helped others succeed. Fine motor skills: the standards require students to "move in all directions within 0.5 millimeters of tolerance." Be ready to describe something you have done with your hands that took precision. Service to communities: the College says it is "dedicated to addressing the evolving oral health care needs of communities in Ohio, the nation, and the world," and its mission and values include "Preparing socially responsible and engaged citizens." Bring a service story and what it taught you about access to care. The best Why Ohio State material is in its clinics and its reach across Ohio.

Ohio State calls itself the first state-supported dental school in Ohio, reports nearly 130,000 patient interactions a year in the College, and says it is home to seven of the nine ADA-recognized specialties. Its students train at three clinics on campus and multiple off-site clinics. In the fourth year, the OHIO Project sends students to provide care in community clinics around Ohio under the supervision of associated faculty: for 50 days, according to its application page, and a minimum of 43, according to the OHIO Project's own page. Students are assigned to programs that include VA hospital dental clinics, health department dental programs, Federally Qualified Health Centers and private practices, and the College says they have an opportunity to experience a mobile dental unit. Students can volunteer with Give Kids a Smile, La Clinica Latina, Smiles for Schools and Give Vets a Smile, and the College says about 60% of Ohio's dentists

studied there. Once enrolled, DDS students classified as Ohio residents who have "connections to underserved communities and a desire to improve access to oral health care" can apply to its CARE Program, which may select up to 10 students from each entering class for scholarship support of up to $10,000 a year. If you want the five-year DDS/MPH or the seven-year DDS/PhD in Oral Biology, say so in the supplemental application. Connect one of these to how you want to learn and whom you want to serve. Ohio State does not publish its interview questions; these are practice questions built on what it says it evaluates. Ohio State doesn t say whether your interviewers have read your application so build a 90-second answer that works either who you are the experiences that led you to dentistry and why Ohio State is the next step. Why dentistry? Ohio State requires at least 40 hours of dental experience and says the students it admits average about 120. Anchor your answer in something specific you saw or did in a dental setting then say what it confirmed for you about the

work. Why Ohio State? Use what Ohio State says about the first state-supported dental school in Ohio nearly 130 000 patient interactions a year seven of the nine ADA-recognized specialties and fourth-year care in community clinics around Ohio through the OHIO Project. Connect one of them to how you want to learn or whom you want to serve; praise for the name is not a reason. What did you learn from shadowing different dentists? Ohio State says “It is important to diversify your experiences (typically 120 hours is completed with 5 or 6 practitioners).” Compare two practices you how they differed in patients pace or approach and what that taught you about the kind of dentist you want to be. Behavioral What do you do outside of school? Ohio State says “To be a good fit for dentistry you need to have outside interests other than academics ” and calls non-academic experiences “a very important part of your profile.” Pick one interest and

talk about it in real what you do how long you have done it and what it has given you. Tell me about a time you worked on a team that was struggling. Ohio State s technical standards ask students to “work and function as a collaborative effective and productive team member ” and it says of student “The program is not competitive; your fellow students become your closest friends and confidantes as you matriculate through dental school.” Say what was going wrong what you did to help the group and what happened giving others their share of the credit. Tell me about a time you received feedback you didn t expect. What did you do with it? Ohio State s technical standards ask students to “accept feedback and respond by appropriate modification of behavior.” Show that you listened changed something specific and what improved as a result. How have you developed your hand skills? Ohio State s technical standards require students to “move in all

directions within 0.5 millimeters of tolerance” with dental instruments. Describe one activity that demanded precision with your what you made or did and how you got better at it. Ethical / Scenario A patient needs treatment they cannot afford. What do you do? Ohio State s mission is “addressing the evolving oral health care needs of communities in Ohio the nation and the world ” and its fourth-year students provide care in community clinics around Ohio. Acknowledge the patient without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community clinic and never lower the standard of care. Show your reasoning; a question like this rarely has a single right answer. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? Ohio State s technical standards ask students to conduct themselves with “integrity” and to “be responsible and accountable in behavior and actions.” Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation

to the proper channels and say why integrity matters when patients trust your license. A nervous patient doesn t understand the treatment you are recommending. How do you handle it? Ohio State s technical standards ask students to “explain treatment procedures and alternative solutions; obtain informed consent” and to communicate “with a degree of sensitivity towards patients.” Check what the patient understands explain the options in plain words answer their worries and go ahead only with their informed consent. A patient refuses the treatment you recommend. How do you respond? Balance the patient s right to decide with their wellbeing. Explain clearly find out what worries them offer alternatives document the conversation and do not abandon the patient. Clear every minimum before you apply Ohio State says “A student s application will not be reviewed unless it meets the minimum standards”: among them a 3.0 total and science GPA and

DAT scores of at least 370 AA 360 PAT and 380 SNS on the 200–600 scale met on your most recent test. You also need at least 8 of its 12 prerequisites and 40 hours of dental experience before you apply. Meeting the minimums “does not guarantee an interview invitation ” so aim well above them. Treat October 1 as the deadline Ohio State s College of Dentistry says your AADSAS application must be “complete verified and sent by AADSAS” by October 1 while the university s Graduate and Professional Admissions page lists October 15 2026. October 1 is the stricter date; if you missed it email dentistryadmissions@osu.edu before counting on the later one. Watch your email and answer within two weeks Ohio State asks you to add @osu.edu to your email safe list. If you meet its minimums the supplemental application arrives by email and is “due 2 weeks after receiving your invitation ” and interview invitations come by email about four to five weeks

before the date with the location and pre-interview programming. Prepare for a format Ohio State doesn t publish Ohio State doesn t publish how its interview runs. None of its DDS pages says whether the interview is in person or virtual how many people interview you how long it lasts or what is asked. A public forum s invite tracker compiled by a volunteer from applicants reports lists Ohio State s interviews as in person in 2025–26 and 2026–27; go by your invitation. Does Ohio State use the MMI?
