LECOM Dental School Interview: DMD 2026-27

LECOM DMD guide from its own pages: a formal interview at the school, no CASPer listed, GPA and DAT targets (410, new scale) and 2026-27 deadlines.

LECOM invites successful applicants to the school for a formal interview, lists no CASPer or Kira, and teaches its first two years of sciences through problem-based learning. Here is what LECOM publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> LECOM DMD Requirements and Class Size The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) School of Dental Medicine runs a full-time, four-year DMD program. You spend the first three years at LECOM's campus in Bradenton, Florida, and the fourth at its dental clinic in Erie, Pennsylvania or DeFuniak Springs, Florida. You apply through AADSAS and also complete LECOM's own Supplemental Application, and LECOM only accepts applicants who are US citizens or permanent residents. LECOM publishes the grades and scores it looks for, not a profile of an entering class: Measure. What LECOM says. Where it says it. Science GPA. 3.2 or higher. Entrance requirements page (“typically”) and

2026–2027 catalog (a “minimum” to be competitive). Overall GPA. 3.2 or higher, or 3.4 or greater. 3.2 on the entrance requirements page; 3.4 “by the time of matriculation” in the catalog. DAT. 410 or higher on the 200–600 scale, or 19 on the previous scale. Academic Average on the entrance requirements page; Academic Average, Reading Comprehension, Perceptual Ability and Science sections in the catalog. DAT age. Taken no more than 3 years before you apply. Submit your most recent scores through AADSAS. Bachelor's degree. Required by the time you enroll. Exceptions may be made for students in special programs who have completed at least 90 credits. Shadowing. At least 100 hours, strongly recommended. Most of them observing a general dentist. Two overall GPA figures: aim for 3.4. LECOM's entrance requirements page says successful applicants "typically have a science GPA and an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher." Its 2026–2027 catalog agrees on

3.2 for science, calling it the minimum to be competitive, but says "By the time of matriculation, a successful candidate typically possesses a total GPA of 3.4 or greater on a 4.0 scale." Treat 3.4 overall as your target, and if your GPA falls between the two figures, ask dentalfla@lecom.edu how LECOM will read it. Which DAT scale is 410 on?. The 200–600 scale the DAT has used since 1 March 2025. LECOM gives both figures itself: "19 (previous scoring system) or 410 (new scoring system) or higher." Compare your score with the figure on the same scale as yours. LECOM's entrance requirements page applies it to the Academic Average; its catalog says "Scores in the area of 19 (previous scoring system) or 410 (new scoring system) or higher will be expected for the Academic Average, Reading Comprehension, Perceptual Ability, and Science sections," so aim for it in all four. Class size, and why this guide gives no acceptance rate. LECOM's

pages give no GPA or DAT profile of an entering class and no count of applications, interviews or offers, so no acceptance rate can be worked out from them. Its catalog says the school opened in July 2012 with an inaugural class of one hundred students, and in a July 2024 news post LECOM said it was "expanding their class size from 100 students to 150 accepted students each year." Prerequisite coursework Course. Minimum. Biology with lab. 8 semester hours (12 quarter hours), including 2 semester hours of lab. General (inorganic) chemistry with lab. 8 semester hours (12 quarter hours), including 2 semester hours of lab. Organic chemistry with lab. 8 semester hours (12 quarter hours), including 2 semester hours of lab. Biochemistry. 3 semester hours (5 quarter hours). English composition or technical writing. 6 semester hours (8 quarter hours) of composition, with emphasis on technical language skills. A grade of C or higher in every

required course: 33 semester hours (49 quarter hours) in all, from a US accredited college or university, completed before you matriculate. Physics isn't on the required list. LECOM gives "additional consideration" to candidates who have taken anatomy (3 hours), physiology (4 hours), microbiology (4 hours) and physics (4 hours), and suggests cell biology, histology, immunology and molecular/genetic biology, which it says will help in the curriculum's problem-based learning (PBL) sessions. Community college and AP credit: LECOM's entrance requirements page says it will consider community college coursework toward "any of the 90 credit course hour requirements for prerequisites and electives"; its catalog says it will consider "limited numbers" of community college coursework, and will accept Advanced Placement (AP) credit for prerequisites and electives upon review by the Admissions Committee. Letters: two core science letters submitted

to AADSAS, or a pre-professional committee letter in their place. LECOM's apply page accepts core science professors at the undergraduate or graduate level, while its catalog says undergraduate science instructors, so use undergraduate faculty if you can. A letter from a dentist is "highly recommended but not required," letters from immediate family members are not accepted, and authors must submit their letters directly. Shadowing: LECOM "strongly recommends" at least 100 hours of job shadowing in a clinical dental setting, "with the majority of those hours spent observing a general dentist." The LECOM Interview: What the School Says It is a formal interview at the school. LECOM's apply page says "The Admissions Committee will invite successful applicants to the school for a formal interview." Its catalog lists "a personal interview" among the five things the school selects students on, with academic performance, DAT scores, a written

application and letters of evaluation. What it is for. "Through the interview, the Committee will learn more about the applicant, as well as their career motivation, approach to problem solving, and communication skills." Invitations come in writing, all cycle long. Applicants selected for interviews "will be notified in writing by the LECOM Office of Student Affairs," and "Interviews will be conducted throughout the application cycle." LECOM's catalog says candidates are selected for an interview "at regular intervals during the admissions cycle." Apply early for early consideration. LECOM encourages you to complete your applications as early as possible "to receive early consideration for an interview." No CASPer or Kira on the official site. None of LECOM's dental pages or its 2026–2027 catalog mentions CASPer (Acuity Insights), Kira or any other online admissions assessment. What applicants report These are posts on a public

applicant forum, not LECOM's words: Last cycle (2025–26): eight applicants posted interview invitations they received between 15 July and 20 August 2025. All eight said the invitation came by email, and the seven who named the setting all said in person. The interview dates they gave ran from 8 August to 12 December 2025; two applicants invited on 5 August said the dates offered were in October and November. Invitations kept coming: on 4 February 2026 an out-of-state applicant posted that they had just received one. One applicant reported interviewing in late March 2026, and another in the first week of May. On 13 April 2026 an applicant posted that they had been accepted that day: "Email around 8am cst, then admissions called around 8:30am." Another applicant reported receiving a "continued interest survey" in the first week of April 2026, before their interview. This cycle (2026–27): an out-of-state applicant posted on 20 July 2026

that they had been sent an interview invitation on 8 July and were scheduled to interview in October. No post in either cycle's thread describes the interview itself: who was in the room, how long it lasted, or what was asked. What LECOM doesn't publish. How long the interview lasts, who interviews you, whether it is one-on-one, a panel, a group or stations, whether your interviewer has read your file, and what is asked. LECOM's pages don't call it in person or virtual either; they say only that successful applicants are invited to the school for a formal interview. If your invitation doesn't give the format, ask dentalfla@lecom.edu. Practice Your LECOM Answers Out Loud. Admission is rolling. LECOM's catalog says applications are reviewed and candidates selected for an interview "at regular intervals during the admissions cycle," and that "to be competitive within the rolling admissions process, prospective students should submit their AADSAS applications as early as possible." The Supplemental Application is "very brief," and LECOM encourages you to complete it as soon as possible. February 1 or February 5?. LECOM's 2026–2027 catalog says "The official AADSAS application deadline is February 1." Its apply page says "AADSAS closes at the beginning of February" and sends you to ADEA's website for the exact date, and ADEA lists February 5, 2027 as the day AADSAS closes this cycle. Go by LECOM's February 1, 2027:

ADEA says each dental school has its own application deadline, and that AADSAS will not send your application to a school if AADSAS receives it after that school's deadline. Better still, apply as early as you can, since LECOM gives early applicants early consideration for an interview. What LECOM Looks For LECOM's apply page says its Admissions Committee considers each candidate's academic record and courses, and that "Preference will be given to students who demonstrate scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and effective communication skills." The school is "seeking candidates committed to providing high-quality, ethical, empathetic, and patient-centered care to serve the needs of a diverse population." Its catalog's list of minimum requirements also includes these three: "Demonstration of commitment to service through community service or extracurricular activities." It prefers community service "through volunteerism or

service-oriented employment." "Demonstration of motivation for and commitment to health care as reflected through employment history, volunteer work, or other life experiences." "Demonstration of good oral and written communication skills necessary to interact with patients and colleagues." The interview, LECOM says, is where the committee learns about your career motivation, approach to problem solving and communication skills. Prepare each one: Career motivation: trace your path to dentistry through what you did and saw, the "employment history, volunteer work, or other life experiences" LECOM's catalog names, rather than through general reasons. Approach to problem solving: when you describe a problem you faced, say how you worked out what was wrong, what you considered and why you chose what you did. The reasoning shows more than the outcome. Communication skills: practice your main stories out loud until each is clear in about two

minutes. LECOM asks for the communication skills "necessary to interact with patients and colleagues." Service: talk about service you kept up over time, and the people it served. The best Why LECOM material is in its PBL curriculum and fourth year. LECOM delivers the first two years' biomedical and medical sciences through problem-based learning, alongside pre-clinical lectures and labs. Its catalog describes small teams of 7–10 learners, each guided by a faculty facilitator, meeting three times a week to work through more than 70 patient cases. In those sessions faculty "do not deliver content in a traditional lecture format"; students identify "learning issues" in each case and study them on their own or in small groups between sessions, and facilitators evaluate each student's group participation, preparation, interpersonal skills and professional behavior, and contributions to group progress. In the first and second years, students

assist and observe third-year students treating patients in the LECOM Dental Group Practices. The fourth year is a 48-week primary care clinical rotation at LECOM's dental clinic in Erie, Pennsylvania or DeFuniak Springs, Florida, which LECOM describes as caring for underserved communities. LECOM also says its focus on preventive care aligns with "the osteopathic principles of holistic healthcare." Connect one of these to how you learn, or to the dentist you want to become. The practice questions below are ours, built on these criteria. LECOM does not publish its interview questions. Internationally trained dentist? LECOM only accepts US citizens and permanent residents. Its catalog describes its own process for candidates with credentials from a dental school outside the US, including a TOEFL score evaluation and a hand-skills bench test, with any credit for earlier dental study at LECOM's discretion; ask DentalFLA@lecom.edu for the

application. LECOM does not publish its interview questions; these are practice questions built on what it says it looks for. It doesn t say whether your interviewer has read your application either so build a 90-second arc that works both who you are the two or three experiences that led you to dentistry and why LECOM is the next step. Why dentistry?

LECOM says the interview shows the committee your “career motivation ” and its catalog looks for commitment to health care “as reflected through employment history volunteer work or other life experiences.” Anchor your answer in one of those experiences then say what it showed you about the work. Why LECOM? Use what LECOM says about its problem-based learning in small faculty-facilitated teams for the first two years sciences assisting and observing third-year students in the LECOM Dental Group Practices in the first and second years and a 48-week fourth-year rotation at its clinic in Erie Pennsylvania or DeFuniak Springs Florida. Connect one of them to how you learn or the dentist you want to become; convenience or praise for the school is not a reason. How would you learn in PBL sessions where faculty don t lecture? In LECOM s PBL sessions faculty “do not deliver content in a traditional lecture format.” Students identify “learning

issues” in each patient case and study them between sessions on their own or in small groups. Give an example of something you learned on your own and say how you would keep yourself on track. Behavioral / Problem Solving Walk me through a difficult problem you solved. LECOM says the interview shows your “approach to problem solving.” Keep the setup short and spend most of the answer on your how you worked out what was wrong the options you weighed and why you chose the one you did. Tell me about a time a group you worked in wasn t working well. LECOM s PBL facilitators evaluate each student s “Group participation and contributions” and “Contributions to group progress.” Say what was going wrong what you did to move the group forward and what you would do again. Tell me about a time you received criticism. LECOM s catalog says PBL students must be willing to “give and accept constructive criticism” and to “acknowledge knowledge gaps

where they exist.” Name the feedback how you took it and what you changed. Tell me about your community service. LECOM s catalog lists a “commitment to service through community service or extracurricular activities” among its minimum requirements and prefers service “through volunteerism or service-oriented employment.” Choose service you kept up over time and talk about the people it served. Ethical / Scenario A member of your PBL group keeps coming to sessions unprepared. What do you do? LECOM s catalog expects PBL students to complete their independent study “to contribute effectively to the group effort ” and its facilitators evaluate preparation. Show that you would talk to the person first and find out why and bring in the facilitator only if that fails. A patient needs treatment they cannot afford. What do you do? LECOM says it seeks candidates committed to “ethical empathetic and patient-centered care.” Acknowledge the patient

without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community clinic and never lower the standard of care. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? Honesty and integrity are among the core values in LECOM s catalog. Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation to the proper channels and say why integrity matters when patients trust your license. A patient refuses the treatment you recommend. How do you respond? Balance the patient s right to decide with their wellbeing. Explain clearly find out what worries them offer alternatives document the conversation and do not abandon the patient. Apply early; LECOM interviews all cycle LECOM encourages you to complete your applications as early as possible “to receive early consideration for an interview ” and its catalog says candidates are selected for an interview “at regular intervals during the admissions cycle.” Once LECOM receives your

AADSAS application it sends instructions for its Supplemental Application which it calls “very brief”; finish it as soon as you can as LECOM asks. Plan to travel to the school LECOM invites successful applicants “to the school for a formal interview ” and in last cycle s forum thread all seven applicants who named the setting reported in person. The School of Dental Medicine is on LECOM s Bradenton campus and LECOM lists Bradenton-area hotels that offer special rates for LECOM ask for the LECOM rate and book through the hotel s local phone number or website because LECOM says the discounts don t apply through online travel sites. Show your reasoning not just your results LECOM says the interview shows the committee your “approach to problem solving ” and it teaches the first two years sciences through problem-based learning in which a facilitator discloses a patient case s information a step at a time as the group asks for it. In each

story say what you noticed what you considered and why you chose what you did. Be ready to talk about the fourth year LECOM s fourth year is a 48-week primary care clinical rotation at its dental clinic in Erie Pennsylvania or DeFuniak Springs Florida where LECOM says students provide “much-needed care” to underserved communities. Know what that year involves and why it suits the dentist you want to become. LECOM s pages don t say how students are assigned to the two sites. LECOM s pages don t use either word for the dental interview. They say the committee invites successful applicants “to the school for a formal interview ” and in last cycle s forum thread all seven applicants who named the setting reported in person. Check your invitation and ask dentalfla@lecom.edu if it isn t clear. Does LECOM require CASPer or Kira? Not on the official site. None of LECOM s dental pages or its 2026–2027 catalog mentions CASPer (Acuity Insights) Kira or any other online admissions assessment. The catalog says LECOM selects students based on “pre-professional academic performance Dental Admission Test (DAT) scores a personal interview a written application and letters of evaluation.” To confirm for your cycle email dentalfla@lecom.edu. What GPA and

DAT do I need for LECOM dental school? LECOM s entrance requirements page says successful applicants typically have science and overall GPAs of 3.2 or higher; its 2026–2027 catalog sets a minimum science GPA of 3.2 to be competitive and says a successful candidate typically has a total GPA of 3.4 or greater by matriculation. Aim for 3.4 overall and 410 in all four. When is the LECOM dental school application deadline? LECOM s 2026–2027 catalog says “The official AADSAS application deadline is February 1 ” which for this cycle means February 1 2027. Its apply page says AADSAS closes at the beginning of February and ADEA lists February 5 2027 as the day AADSAS

closes; go by LECOM s February 1. The LECOM Supplemental Application is due March 31 2027. Admission is rolling and interviews run throughout the cycle so LECOM encourages applying as early as possible. When does LECOM send acceptances? LECOM says it will notify applicants of provisional or final acceptance “no earlier than the first given date in December as published by AADSAS ” and ADEA lists December 15 2026 as this cycle s notification date. Admission is rolling; one applicant reported being accepted on 13 April 2026 by email and then a call from admissions. Accepted students pay a $2 000 non-refundable matriculation fee due 30 days after they receive the acceptance. Does LECOM have an early acceptance program for dental school? Yes for students who don t yet hold a bachelor s degree. LECOM s Early Acceptance Program has a dental Bachelor s Track offered only in you need a provisional letter of acceptance before your final
