Marquette Dental School Interview: DDS 2026-27
Marquette DDS guide from its own pages: virtual interviews on dates from Sept 18, 2026, 50 in-state and 50 out-of-state seats, and no published deadline.
Marquette holds virtual interviews for 2026–27 on dates it lists from September 18, 2026 to January 25, 2027, with separate fall dates for non-residents and residents. Here is what Marquette publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> Marquette DDS Requirements and Class Profile Marquette University School of Dentistry, in Milwaukee, calls itself Wisconsin's only dental school. It began as the Dental Department of the Milwaukee Medical College on September 26, 1894, and its DDS is a four-year program. Marquette says it enrolls 100 students each year, "50 in-state and 50 out-of-state." You apply through AADSAS; after you complete it, Marquette asks you to pay a $45 processing fee online, through a link it emails "once the application has been received." Its profile of the Class of 2030, which entered in 2026, reports: Figure. Class of 2030 (entered in 2026). Applications. 3,686. Interviews. 480. Acceptances. 196.
Enrolled. 100. GPA. 3.77 overall, 3.70 science. DAT scores. Academic Average 436, PAT Average 452, on the 200–600 scale. Age. 20 to 28; average 23. Which DAT scale are 436 and 452 on?. The 200–600 scale the DAT has used since 1 March 2025. Marquette's profile doesn't label the scale, but only that scale has three-digit scores. Its Class of 2029 profile, still linked on Marquette's pages, gives an Academic Average of 21.11 and a PAT average of 20.58, which are on the old 1–30 scale. Marquette gives no conversion between the two, and we don't make one; it also doesn't say how it averaged scores from tests taken before the change. The DDS admissions pages we read set no minimum GPA or DAT score: candidates "must obtain acceptable scores," the test "can be taken more than once, but the admissions committee will only consider the most recent test results," and the Canadian DAT is accepted. The DAT rule elsewhere on Marquette's site, 390 or
higher in each of the eight sections (200–600 scale; 17 if the DAT was taken before March 1, 2025), belongs to its Pre-dental Scholars program, a seven-year route for students admitted from high school or in their first year at Marquette, not to AADSAS applicants. Why this guide gives no acceptance rate. Marquette publishes counts, not a rate: for the Class of 2030, 3,686 applications, 480 interviews, 196 acceptances and 100 enrolled. We don't compute a rate from them. Its profile doesn't split those counts by residency, so it says nothing about in-state or out-of-state odds. In state or out of state? Marquette's FAQ says "we enroll only 100 freshmen — 50 Wisconsin residents and 50 non-residents," and its 2025 viewbook says "Though many applicants are Wisconsin residents, each class comprises an intentional balance of in- and out-of-state students." Even its 2026–27 interview dates are split by residency (see below). Marquette counts 27
states plus Canada in its student body, as of fall 2026. Residency also sets tuition: for 2026–27, Marquette lists $62,890 a year for Wisconsin residents and $71,550 for out-of-state students, in each of the four years; its 2027–28 figures, for the class that enters next fall, are still "TBD." Its bulletin's criteria for residency for tuition include graduating from a Wisconsin high school and maintaining residency in Wisconsin, or living in Wisconsin for at least 12 continuous months immediately before the term you enroll in, without completing coursework at any school during that time, and filing Wisconsin income taxes as a full-year resident. It notes that these rules differ from Wisconsin's requirements for taxes, voting and the like. Marquette doesn't say whether the same criteria decide which interview dates, "resident" or "non-resident," you are offered; if you are unsure, ask dentaladmit@marquette.edu. Prerequisite coursework
Course. Semester hours. Quarter hours. Chemistry: general (inorganic) and organic, at least two courses and 8 semester hours of each, with labs. 16. 24. Biology or zoology, with lab (no more than 4 semester hours of botany count). 8. 12. Physics, with lab. 8. 12. English: composition, literature and/or comparative literature. 6. 9. Biochemistry, at a four-year institution (no lab required). 3. 5. Electives. 49. Not given. Total. 90. 135 (its bulletin). 90 credits, and you may apply at 60: "The minimum entrance requirement is 90 semester credits of liberal arts study," and "You may apply after completing at least 60 semester hours" of them. Marquette adds that "Candidates with baccalaureate degrees earned before dental school enrollment may be most competitive." Its FAQ says that though a bachelor's degree "is not required for admission, it is generally preferred," and that Marquette "rarely takes applicants who have not completed their
bachelor’s degree." Labs: "All science courses, with the exception of biochemistry, must include laboratory instruction." A course in quantitative and qualitative analysis "may be accepted in lieu of one course in general inorganic chemistry." Biochemistry: three semester hours, taken at a four-year institution. Marquette suggests "a general, broad-based introductory course." AP credit: its 2026–2027 bulletin says "The School of Dentistry does not accept AP course work for prerequisite science requirements." Courses in progress: you may apply while prerequisites are in progress; if you are accepted, your offer "is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all prerequisite course work." All requirements must be completed before your first year of dental school, and "Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the dean or his designee." Suggested courses: anatomy, cell biology, genetics, microbiology and physiology, with math
courses "in preparation for physics and advanced chemistry." Marquette also recommends courses such as speech, history, philosophy, sociology, political science, economics, psychology and a foreign language, so that you gain "an understanding and an appreciation of various cultural backgrounds in preparation for their futures as professionals and community leaders." The DAT: required of every applicant, and the Canadian DAT is accepted. Only your most recent scores count. The pages we read give no minimum score and no limit on how old your scores may be. Three letters: two from science professors and the third from someone of your choosing, submitted to AADSAS. "The Admissions Committee will accept a committee letter in lieu of three individual letters." The $45 fee: paid online by debit or credit card or e-check. Marquette "will no longer accept personal checks or money orders." A balance owed to Marquette: its bulletin says "No
consideration is given to an applicant with an outstanding balance of $3,000 or more owed to Marquette University." Hand skills: Marquette's technical standards require that a candidate be able to "operate high or low speed dental instruments within less than one millimeter." If you are accepted: you "must respond in writing within the deadlines stated in the letter of acceptance" and pay a $1,000 nonrefundable deposit, which is credited to your first-semester tuition. You must also consent to a criminal background check, be immunized against hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella and tetanus-diphtheria, have an annual TB test, show immunity to varicella-zoster through a blood titer, prove you have health insurance, and submit all final transcripts before you enroll. International applicants: if English was not the language of your formal education, you take the TOEFL "or submit other evidence of English proficiency." F-1 and J-1 visa
students must document full financial resources for the length of the program, and "Special deposit and insurance fees are required of international students." Shadowing: no hour requirement on Marquette's DDS pages. The Marquette DDS pages we read, including its FAQ, its 2025 viewbook and its bulletin's dental admission page, give no number of shadowing or dental-experience hours. "Orientation to the profession" is one of the characteristics Marquette says it considers, so be ready to explain what you know about dentistry and how you learned it. The only shadowing rule we found on its site, 30 documented hours, is for its Pre-dental Scholars. If you want a number to aim for, ask dentaladmit@marquette.edu. Biology: Marquette's pages prefer different courses. Both pages require 8 semester hours of biology with lab, and neither preference is a requirement. Marquette's academic requirements page says "Zoology and a course in comparative
vertebrate anatomy are preferred but not mandatory," while its 2026–2027 bulletin says "Microbiology is preferred but not mandatory." Microbiology is also on the academic requirements page's list of suggested pre-dental science electives. If you have room, microbiology plus zoology and a course in comparative vertebrate anatomy would cover both pages' preferences; confirm your plan with dentaladmit@marquette.edu. CASPer or Kira?. Marquette's DDS admissions pages, its FAQ, its 2025 viewbook and the dental admission page of its 2026–2027 bulletin don't mention CASPer, Acuity Insights, Kira or any similar assessment. What they ask for is AADSAS, with your transcripts, DAT and three letters, the $45 processing fee and, if you are invited, the personal interview. The bench test on Marquette's site is for its Advanced Standing Program for foreign-trained dentists, not the DDS. To confirm anything on this page, email dentaladmit@marquette.edu
or call (414) 288-3532. Marquette's FAQ says you can get updates on your application by calling (800) 445-5385 or by email, and that its office "will make every effort to update the AADSAS web portal in a timely manner." To visit, its admissions page offers tours led by a current dental student, Monday through Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., and individual visits with the Director of Admissions or its admissions counselor; its FAQ describes tours on most weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and recommends calling (800) 445-5385 two to three weeks ahead. Call to confirm which applies. The Marquette Interview: What the School Says Virtual in 2026–27. In Marquette's words, "Marquette School of Dentistry will hold virtual interviews during the 2026-27 application cycle." It doesn't name the video platform. A personal interview, by invitation. Marquette's Admissions Committee "accepts applicants based on scholarship, Dental Admission Test
scores, a personal interview and the applicant’s overall suitability for the study of dentistry." Its FAQ says "The Admissions Committee selects which candidates it wants to interview and extends interview invitations beginning in early September," and "Interviews are offered by invitation only." The fall interview matters. "It is extremely difficult for an applicant to be admitted if he/she has not been interviewed during the fall interview cycle." Marquette adds that "Occasionally (if necessary) the Admissions Committee will do additional interviews in the spring," and that "It is possible to be added to the alternate pool without an interview." Separate dates for non-residents and residents. Marquette's 2026–27 list labels each fall date "non-resident" or "resident" (table below). You authorize a background check at the interview. Marquette's policy says authorization for a criminal background check "will be received from all
Marquette University School of Dentistry applicants at the time of their formal interview," and that the check is run only if you are provisionally accepted. It "is not a component of the application, interview, or initial decision-making process for the school." What it counts for. "Personal interview" is the last of the characteristics Marquette says it considers in addition to academic achievement, and its technical standards say "Compassion, integrity, concern for others, interpersonal skills, interest and motivation are all personal qualities that will be assessed during the admission and educational processes." Group (Marquette's label). 2026–27 interview dates. Non-resident. September 18, 21, 25 and 28; October 2, 5, 9, 12 and 16, 2026. Resident. October 30; November 2 and 6, 2026. No group given. January 22 and 25, 2027. All 14 dates fall on a Monday or a Friday; we checked them against a calendar. Marquette doesn't say who is
interviewed on the January dates. September, or October and November? Marquette's pages differ. Marquette's 2026–27 list starts on September 18, with non-residents. Its other pages describe the pattern without dates: the FAQ says "The interviews take place annually in October and November," the admissions process page says interviews are conducted "primarily in October and November," with "Non-resident interviews" in October and "Resident interviews" in November, and its 2026–2027 bulletin says interviews "occur during October and November." For this cycle, go by the dated list, the only one that gives dates for 2026–27. What applicants report These are posts on a public applicant forum, and an invite tracker that a forum volunteer compiles there from applicants' reports, not Marquette's words: This cycle (2026–27): the forum's invite tracker (compiled by a volunteer from applicants' reports), last updated 25 September 2026, lists
Marquette's first invitations on 3 September and a first interview date of 18 September, virtual: the first date on Marquette's own list. In the forum's Marquette thread for this cycle, one out-of-state applicant invited by email on 3 September described the interview as "Virtual (info session and interview and visit day for out of state)," with a first available date of 9/18, and wrote on 11 September: "For Marquette, it says the visit day for OOS interviewees is optional, is it worth it to go?" As of 6 October 2026, that was the only invitation reported in the thread. Last cycle (2025–26): the tracker, last updated 22 October 2025, listed first invitations on 2 September 2025 and a first interview date of 15 September, virtual. In that cycle's thread, two out-of-state applicants posted invitations by email on 2 September 2025, both virtual. On 3 December 2025, another out-of-state applicant reported a "Surprise additional wave for two
dates in January (mid and late month)," also virtual, and wrote: "I remember asking them after the original wave, and they told me they weren't sending any more Fall interview invites but planned on having Winter interviews." Decisions: on 15 December 2025, one of the applicants invited on 2 September posted "Got an email for acceptance at 7am and a call around 10am!", and an in-state applicant posted that they had been waitlisted. On 27 January 2026, one applicant asked when Marquette would send its "second wave of acceptances." All four applicants in the two threads who described the setting wrote "Virtual." None described the format: how many interviewers, how long, or what was asked. What Marquette doesn't publish. How its interview runs: who interviews you, how many people, for how long, whether they have read your application, what is asked, the video platform, and what else the day includes. It also doesn't say who is interviewed
on the January dates. Marquette does say what it considers, from your college and the rigor of your courses to your motivation and values (see below), so reread your whole application before the day and be ready to talk about any part of it. Marquette's application requirements page says "For optimum consideration, your credential file (including the AADSAS application with grades and DAT scores, letters of recommendation and the application fee) should be complete in our office no later than September 1," and its bulletin says the same more briefly. Neither calls September 1 a deadline, and none of the Marquette pages we read gives one for the DDS (the January 1, 2027 date on its admissions page is the Advanced Standing Program's). Its
2025 viewbook adds that "Applications are processed from June 1 through January 1," without a year. September 1, 2026 has passed, and the last fall interview date on Marquette's list is November 6: if you haven't applied yet, email dentaladmit@marquette.edu before you do. When do offers go out? Marquette's pages differ. Marquette's FAQ says "The Admissions Committee sends out initial offers of admission and denials on December 1. After December 1, the Admission Committee makes decisions on a rolling basis." Its admissions process page says "the first offers of admission are made in early December," and its 2025 viewbook says "Offers of admission begin December 15." One applicant on a public forum reported an acceptance email on 15 December 2025. Watch your email from December 1, and ask dentaladmit@marquette.edu if you need the date. If you are accepted, a $1,000 nonrefundable deposit reserves your seat. "Once all primary spaces in the
class are filled, an alternate pool is created." If you reapply, Marquette keeps your letters of recommendation and DAT scores for the next year, but you submit a new application and pay a new fee. Its bulletin lets admitted students who have paid the deposit request a one-year deferral, which is not guaranteed, and its FAQ says deferments are granted "on a case-by-case basis" and are "not an overly common practice." What Marquette Looks For Marquette says "the committee’s decision is largely academic," but that it selects "those students we think are the best fit for our program by also considering non-academic characteristics that demonstrate an applicant's talents, values and motivation to excel in their studies." In addition to academic achievement, it considers the quality of your college or university, the rigor of your course selection, your trend of performance (GPA), your DAT score, your orientation to the profession, your
motivation and values, your extracurricular, leadership and service background, and the personal interview. With its technical standards, that list is the best checklist for the interview: Your transcript's story: "Quality of college/university attended," "Course selection rigor" and "Trend of performance (GPA)" are on Marquette's list. Be ready to explain the choices behind your course load and any rise or dip in your grades. Orientation to the profession: Marquette's DDS pages set no shadowing hours, but this is on its list. Have specific examples of what you have seen dentists do and what it taught you about the work. Motivation and values: its 2025 viewbook says the School of Dentistry embodies Marquette University's Jesuit ideals of being "a person for others" and defines dentistry "as a helping profession." Have one story that shows what you value and how you act on it. Service and leadership: "Extracurricular/leadership/service
background" is on the list, and Marquette's admissions page ties its work to "the university's mission of service to others." Bring one service story and one leadership story, with what each changed. The qualities it assesses: "Compassion, integrity, concern for others, interpersonal skills, interest and motivation," in the words of its technical standards. Have an example of each that you can tell in about a minute. Communicating with patients: a candidate must be able to "communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and/or guardian" and "explain alternative solutions." Practice explaining something technical in plain words. Stress, criticism and anxious patients: the standards include "functioning effectively under stress, adapting to changing environments, displaying flexibility," managing "apprehensive patients with a range of moods and behaviors in a tactful, congenial, personal manner," and being able to "accept criticism
and respond by appropriate modification of behavior." Have an example of each. Problem solving and hand skills: "Problem solving, a critical skill demanded of a dentist," and the ability to "operate high or low speed dental instruments within less than one millimeter." Be ready to talk through how you solved a hard problem, and to describe something you have done with your hands that took precision. Cultural understanding: Marquette advises students to gain "an understanding and an appreciation of various cultural backgrounds in preparation for their futures as professionals and community leaders." The best Why Marquette material is in its clinics and its reach across Wisconsin. Marquette's clinical curriculum "is based on a general practice model": students are assigned to Comprehensive Patient Management Groups, each "operated as a group practice," and first- and second-year students take part in them, including dental rounds, where
cases are presented by "vertically integrated teams of four students, D1-D4." Its 2025 viewbook says D1 students begin applying classroom learning in its clinics "From the very first week," and that "By summer, you’ll be handling patient cleanings on your own in our main clinics." Marquette says "One-fourth of your academic career will be dedicated to treating patients at urban and rural clinical sites affiliated with Marquette University," and the rotations required to graduate include its Community Dental Clinic in Milwaukee, the Tri-County Community Dental Clinic in Appleton and Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire. The viewbook says close to 43% of its dental clinic patients are eligible for coverage under the state's Medicaid insurance, describes special patient care training from the second year and clinical rotations in its Delta Dental Urgent and Special Care Clinic, opened in 2024, and calls its Special Care
Dentistry Association chapter "one of 11 in the country." Marquette also calls itself the "Nation's first and only dental school to offer diploma privilege for practice in the State of Wisconsin," which a 2024 Marquette Today story explains spares graduates a regional practical examination when they apply for a Wisconsin license. Connect one of them to how you want to learn and whom you want to serve; being Wisconsin s only dental school is not a reason on its own. What does being “a person for others” mean to you? Marquette s 2025 viewbook says its School of Dentistry embodies Marquette University s Jesuit ideals of being “a person for others” and defines dentistry “as a helping profession.”
Answer with a time you put someone else s needs first what it asked of you and what you learned. Behavioral Walk me through your transcript. What should we know about it? Marquette lists “Course selection rigor” and “Trend of performance (GPA)” among the characteristics it considers. Explain the reasoning behind your course load and if your grades dipped say what happened and what you changed. Tell me about a leadership role or service commitment and what it accomplished. “Extracurricular/leadership/service background” is on Marquette s list and its admissions page ties its work to “the university s mission of service to others.” Pick one commitment you kept over time and say what changed because of you. Tell me about a time you received criticism. What did you do with it? Marquette s technical standards say a candidate “must reasonably be expected to accept criticism and respond by appropriate modification of behavior.” Show that you
listened changed something specific and what improved as a result. Describe a time you had to perform under pressure or adapt to a sudden change. The standards ask candidates to tolerate “demanding workloads to include functioning effectively under stress adapting to changing environments displaying flexibility.” Keep the setup short show what you did and end with the result and what you would do again. Ethical / Scenario A patient is anxious and upset before treatment. How do you handle it? Marquette s technical standards ask candidates to “manage apprehensive patients with a range of moods and behaviors in a tactful congenial personal manner so as not to alienate or antagonize them.” Show that you would acknowledge the fear explain each step in plain words agree on a signal to pause and involve your supervising dentist if the patient wants to stop. A patient needs treatment they cannot afford. What do you do? Marquette s 2025 viewbook
says close to 43% of its dental clinic patients are eligible for coverage under the state s Medicaid insurance and describes “a commitment to caring for the underrepresented and underserved.” Acknowledge the patient without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community clinic and never lower the standard of care. Show your reasoning; a question like this rarely has a single right answer. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? Integrity is one of the personal qualities Marquette s technical standards say “will be assessed during the admission and educational processes.” Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation to the proper channels and say why integrity matters when patients trust your license. A patient doesn t understand the treatment options you are offering. How do you explain them? Marquette s standards ask candidates to “communicate effectively and sensitively with
patients and/or guardian” and to “explain alternative solutions.” Check what the patient understands explain each option in plain words with its trade-offs answer their worries and let them decide. Don t wait on a deadline Marquette doesn t publish Marquette s target is September “For optimum consideration your credential file (including the AADSAS application with grades and DAT scores letters of recommendation and the application fee) should be complete in our office no later than September 1.” It publishes no deadline and September 1 2026 has if you haven t applied yet email dentaladmit@marquette.edu before you do. and the applicant’s overall suitability for the study of dentistry ” and for 2026–27 it says it “will hold virtual interviews.” Interviews are by invitation only with invitations “beginning in early September.” Its 2026–27 dates run from September 18 to October 16 2026 for non-residents and from October 30 to November 6 for residents plus January 22 and 25 2027. Marquette s pages don t say who interviews you how many people for how long or what is asked. Authorization for a criminal background check is collected “at the time of their formal interview ” and the check is run only if you are provisionally accepted. Is the Marquette dental interview virtual or in person? Virtual this cycle. Marquette s admissions page says “Marquette School of Dentistry will hold virtual interviews during the 2026-27 application cycle.” It doesn t name the video platform. On a public applicant forum one out-of-state applicant invited on 3 September 2026
listed “info session and interview and visit day for out of state ” and later wrote that “it says the visit day for OOS interviewees is optional”; Marquette s pages don t describe these. The three 2025–26 applicants who described the setting all wrote “Virtual.” Does Marquette use the MMI? Marquette s DDS pages don t mention an MMI multiple mini interviews or interview stations; they describe “a personal interview ” and its bulletin says qualified candidates “are invited for personal interviews.” None of the applicants who posted in a public forum s Marquette threads for 2025–26 or 2026–27 described an MMI or any other format. Prepare for questions about your whole application and go by your invitation. Does Marquette require CASPer or Kira for dental school? Marquette s DDS admissions pages its FAQ its 2025 viewbook and the dental admission page of its 2026–2027 bulletin don t mention CASPer Acuity Insights Kira or any similar
assessment. What they ask for is AADSAS with your transcripts DAT and three letters the $45 processing fee and if you are invited the personal interview. The bench test on Marquette s site is for its Advanced Standing Program for foreign-trained dentists not the DDS. What GPA and DAT do I need for Marquette dental school? Marquette s DDS pages publish no minimum GPA or DAT score; they say candidates “must obtain acceptable scores” on the DAT. Its Class of 2030 profile reports an overall GPA of 3.77 a science GPA of 3.70 a DAT Academic Average of 436 and a PAT Average of 452 on the 200–600 scale the DAT has used since March 2025. Its Class of 2029 profile s 21.11 and 20.58 are on the old 1–30 scale; Marquette gives no conversion and we don t make one. The DAT “can be taken more than once but the admissions committee will only consider the most recent test results ” and Marquette accepts the Canadian DAT. Does Marquette accept
out-of-state applicants? Yes. haven t applied email dentaladmit@marquette.edu. How many shadowing hours does Marquette require? The Marquette DDS pages we read including its FAQ its 2025 viewbook and its bulletin s dental admission page give no number of shadowing or dental-experience hours. “Orientation to the profession” is one of the characteristics Marquette says it considers so be ready to show what you know about dentistry and how you learned it. The only shadowing rule we found on Marquette s site 30 documented hours applies to its Pre-dental Scholars program not to AADSAS applicants.
