Here is what WesternU publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> Western U DMD Requirements and Class Profile Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) College of Dental Medicine, in Pomona, California, expects to seat a four-year DMD class of 69–74 students. You apply twice: through AADSAS and through WesternU's own secondary application. WesternU also publishes the applications, interviews and enrollment behind the class it seated in fall 2025. Figure. The 200–600 scale the DAT has used since 1 March 2025. WesternU gives no figure on the old 1–30 scale, so if your score is on the old scale, don't compare it with a bare 430. Why this guide gives no acceptance rate. WesternU publishes applications, interviews and enrollment, but not how many offers it made. 320 interviews from 2,627 applications is about 1 in 8; how many of those interviewed were admitted can't be worked out from its page. Only English may be taken on an advanced-placement basis, and CLEP, IB and credit for experiential learning don't count. At least 90 semester or 135 quarter units. A bachelor's degree isn't required, but WesternU says one "will likely strengthen your application", and its 2026–27 catalog says candidates who

have or will have one, or who have more than the minimum units, "will be given preference." Letters: one letter from your school's pre-professional committee, which WesternU prefers, or three: two from science professors and one from a dentist (not a family member) or another professor. All must arrive by December 1, 2026. Community service is a requirement , through volunteering or service-oriented employment. Dental experience: 30 hours minimum, and two different targets. Go by the school, and book early: WesternU encourages applicants "to schedule their Casper test early to ensure timely score delivery." The Western U Interview: What WesternU Says It

is on campus. WesternU's timeline says "Qualified candidates will be invited for on-campus interviews" from September to February. Invitations are rolling. WesternU invites candidates to interview "on a rolling basis throughout the admissions cycle." The secondary comes first. All applicants must complete WesternU's secondary application "in order to be considered for an interview." About 1 in 8 applicants was interviewed for the class seated in fall 2025: 320 interviews from 2,627 applications. What applicants report These are posts by applicants on a public applicant forum, not WesternU's words: This cycle (2026–27): an out-of-state applicant was invited by email on 14 August 2026 for an in-person interview on 11 September. On 29 September, asked whether it was open or closed file, they answered: "It is closed file." Last cycle (2025–26): a California resident was invited by email on 18 August 2025, with 15 September as the first

interview date offered, and reported the interview as in person. Other applicants posted invitations on 26 September and 11 December 2025, and an interview on 20 February 2026. An applicant wrote that their file went to the admissions committee on 2 September 2025, after a wait for their CASPer. In a post on 18 November 2025, an applicant who had attended WesternU's Preview Day relayed a presentation: "all pre-December interview invitations have already been sent out," and "after the holiday break the committee will review the number of deposits received and then determine the next round of interview invitations for January and onward." This is secondhand. What WesternU doesn't publish. The interview's format (one-on-one, a panel or MMI stations), how long it lasts, who interviews you, and what is asked. WesternU doesn't say whether interviewers see your file; one applicant reports closed file this cycle. If that holds, your interviewer

may not have read your application, so be ready to introduce your own experiences. If your invitation describes the format, go by it. Practice Your WesternU Answers Out Loud. What Western U Looks For WesternU says that GPA, DAT scores, community service, essay statements, letters of recommendation and dental-related experience "will all hold the same weight", and that "Compassion, integrity, concern for others,

interpersonal skills, interests, and motivations are all personal qualities that will be assessed during the admissions and educational processes." Its Competitive Class Stats page lists what it desires in "each Dental Medicine student", including: "excellent verbal and written communication skills" : practice out loud until your main stories run clearly in about two minutes. "flexible and adaptable to change" : have an example of a plan that fell apart and what you did next. "integrity, compassion and respect" : one person and one moment, told in detail, beats a list of volunteer hours. "interest and involvement in the community" : talk about service you kept up over time, and the people it served. "a good understanding of both the dental profession and WesternU" : know what you saw in dental settings, and know WesternU's program. The best Why WesternU material is in its community curriculum. WesternU's Community-Based Dental Education

runs through all four years and culminates in two seven-week externship rotations, in the third and fourth years, at Federally Qualified Health Centers, non-profit community clinics and Indian Health Service sites. WesternU also says it treats students "as members of the profession from the first day", offers interprofessional learning with other health professions, and integrates early direct patient care, with service learning in community settings in the first two years. Admissions Statistics 2 prep-checklist Prep Checklist 2 faq FAQ 2 Traditional / Motivational Tell me about yourself. WesternU does not publish its interview questions; these are practice questions built on what it says it assesses. One applicant reports a closed-file interview this cycle so prepare as if your interviewer has not read your build a 90-second arc covering who you are the two or three experiences that led you to dentistry and why WesternU is the next step. Why dentistry? WesternU says it desires that each Dental Medicine student “Has knowledge of and has experienced opportunities in an oral health care setting.” Anchor your answer in something you saw or did in your dental hours then say what it confirmed for you. Why WesternU? Use what WesternU says about its program such as Community-Based Dental Education across all four years two seven-week externship rotations at Federally Qualified Health Centers non-profit community

clinics and Indian Health Service sites and interprofessional learning with other health professions. Connect one of them to the dentist you want to become; praise for the name is not a reason. What do you know about WesternU? WesternU wants “a good understanding of both the dental profession and WesternU.” Know its program before you where it is how its community-based curriculum works and what draws you to it. Behavioral Tell me about a time your plans changed suddenly. WesternU wants students who are “flexible and adaptable to change.” Keep the setup short and spend most of the answer on what you did next and what you would do again. Describe a time you showed compassion for someone. Compassion and concern for others are among the qualities WesternU says it assesses. Pick one person and one moment say what you noticed and what you did and skip the list of volunteer hours. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when it cost you

something. Integrity is on the same list. Be specific about what was at stake what you did and why. Tell me about service you have done in your community. Community service is a requirement of WesternU s program not an extra. Choose service you kept up over time and talk about the people it served rather than the hours. Ethical / Scenario A patient needs treatment they cannot afford. What do you do? Acknowledge the patient without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community clinic and never lower the standard of care. Show your reasoning; a question like this rarely has a single right answer. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation to the proper channels and say why integrity matters when patients trust your license. A patient refuses the treatment you recommend. How do you respond? Balance the patient s right to decide with their

wellbeing. Explain clearly find out what worries them offer alternatives document the conversation and do not abandon the patient. Take CASPer well before November 12 WesternU s last CASPer test date is November 12 2026 at 00 PM PST and it allows one attempt per cycle. A 2025–26 applicant reported that their file went to the committee only once their CASPer arrived and WesternU itself encourages applicants “to schedule their Casper test early to ensure timely score delivery.” Apply early; admission is rolling WesternU says “The later you apply the more competition you will have as many of the seats will have already been filled.” Submit AADSAS and the secondary application as soon as you can after they open on June 2. Log your dental hours where WesternU looks List your dental experience in the shadowing section of your AADSAS application; WesternU says that if your hours aren t listed there your application will not be processed. 30

hours is the minimum and WesternU recommends 100+ on one page and 300+ on another. Prepare to introduce yourself from scratch WesternU does not say whether interviewers see your file and one applicant reports a closed-file interview this cycle. Be ready to explain your experiences without assuming your interviewer has read them. WesternU s admissions timeline says qualified candidates “will be invited for on-campus interviews” (the school is in Pomona

Every DMD applicant must complete CASPer in the 2026–27 cycle. WesternU says the last test date that meets its deadline is November 12 2026 at 00 PM PST that scores must be received by December 1 2026 and that you may take CASPer only once per cycle. How hard is it to get an interview at WesternU? For the class seated in fall 2025 WesternU received 2 627 AADSAS applications and conducted 320 interviews about 1 in 8. It enrolled 69 students. It does not publish how many offers it made so no acceptance rate can be worked out from its figures. What GPA and DAT do I need for WesternU dental school? WesternU s admitted students for the class seated in fall 2025 averaged a 3.65 overall GPA a 3.36 science GPA and a 430 on the DAT s AA PA and TS on the 200–600 scale. It says GPA DAT

community service essays letters and dental-related experience “will all hold the same weight.” How many shadowing hours does WesternU require? At least 30 hours of dental-related experience completed when you apply and listed in the shadowing section of AADSAS. WesternU s requirements page recommends 100+ hours to be competitive while its 2026 application checklist recommends 300+. Are most WesternU dental students from California? In the class seated in fall 2025 46 of the 69 students enrolled were California residents. WesternU s admissions pages do not describe a residency preference either way. Can I retake the DAT after applying to WesternU? WesternU reviews each application with one DAT score. If you plan to retake tell your admissions counselor before your application is sent for committee review; once it is sent it cannot be put on hold for new scores.
