ATSU Arizona Dental School Interview & MMI: DMD 2026-27

ATSU Arizona (ASDOH) DMD guide from its own pages: a group activity, panel and 3-station MMI, the Nov 15 AADSAS deadline, and 2025 entering class stats.

ASDOH's interview day combines a group activity, a panel interview and a three-station MMI with a standardized patient. Here is what ASDOH publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> ATSU Arizona DMD Requirements and Class Profile A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH), in Mesa, Arizona, was established in 2003 as Arizona's first dental school, founded, in its words, "to address the disparities in oral healthcare in Arizona and across the nation." Its DMD is a four-year, in-person program. You apply through AADSAS, and ATSU emails its secondary application to those who qualify (its catalog says applicants who meet the minimum GPA requirements receive instructions for it). ASDOH's fact sheet for the 2025–26 academic year publishes the applications, interviews and averages behind its 2025 entering class. Figure. 2025 entering class. Note. Applications received. 3,437. ASDOH's

count. Applicants interviewed. 491. 14.3% of applications, about 1 in 7 (our arithmetic). Class size. 78. ASDOH's fact sheet. Average GPA. 3.58. Average science GPA: 3.50. DAT Academic Average. 20.15. Old 1–30 scale; no 200–600 figure given. Average age. 25. 19 states represented. Which DAT scale is 20.15 on?. The old 1–30 scale. The DAT has been scored from 200 to 600 since 1 March 2025, and no score on that scale can be 20.15. ASDOH's fact sheet gives no new-scale figure for this class, and we don't convert one. ASDOH publishes no minimum DAT score on either scale. Why this guide gives no acceptance rate. ASDOH publishes applications, interviews and class size, not how many offers it made. 491 interviews from 3,437 applications is 14.3%; how many of those interviewed were offered a seat can't be worked out from its figures. A separate ASDOH page about its clinics speaks of "approximately 2,500 highly qualified applicants" a year

competing for 78 positions; the fact sheet's count for the 2025 entering class is 3,437. Prerequisite coursework Course. Minimum. General biology. One year of lecture and lab, at least 8 semester (12 quarter) hours; zoology or microbiology are acceptable alternatives. General chemistry. One year of lecture and lab, at least 8 semester (12 quarter) hours. Organic chemistry. One year of lecture and lab, at least 8 semester (12 quarter) hours. Physics (algebra-based). One year of lecture and lab, at least 8 semester (12 quarter) hours. Human anatomy. 3 semester (4 quarter) hours. Human physiology. 3 semester (4 quarter) hours. Biochemistry. 3 semester (4 quarter) hours, upper division (300 level or above). English composition/technical writing. At least 3 semester (4 quarter) hours. From a regionally accredited US institution. All prerequisite coursework must come from one, and all of it must be finished before you matriculate. AP and CLEP

credit don't count, and ASDOH highly recommends taking the science prerequisites within five years of applying. A two-part Anatomy & Physiology sequence is acceptable if you take both Part I and Part II. At least three years of college (90 semester or 135 quarter hours) from a regionally accredited school in the United States only. A bachelor's degree is preferred. A minimum cumulative and science GPA of 2.75 on a four-point scale, with 3.0 the recommended minimum. ASDOH says "The overall and science GPA, the school(s) attended, and the rigor of the academic course load are all assessed on an individual basis." The DAT is required. Take it and submit your scores through AADSAS on or before December 1 of the application year; scores older than three years aren't accepted. Citizenship: you must be a US citizen or permanent resident, or hold an F-1 (student) visa that allows academic study in the US. Community service: ASDOH says

"Demonstrated community service through volunteerism or service-oriented employment is preferred." Shadowing: ASDOH's pages set no number of shadowing hours. Both versions of its letter requirement include a letter from a dentist, and its catalog lists "clinical exposure" among what the Admissions Committee reviews. ASDOH's pages disagree on how many letters you need. Its DMD admissions page asks for a minimum of two: one from a science faculty member or predental committee member, and one from a dentist. It adds that you "can also submit" a letter from a community service supervisor, and its list of what a completed application includes says "2 letters of recommendation". Its 2026–27 catalog, like last year's, requires a minimum of three: one from a science faculty member, committee member or academic advisor, one from a dentist, and one from a community service supervisor. Both say the service letter must come from a broad-based

volunteer project in which you weren't paid. Send all three, and confirm with admissions@atsu.edu. The ATSU Arizona Interview Day: What ASDOH Says Interviews are by invitation. ASDOH's catalog says personal interviews "may be offered to those applicants who rank among the highest in evaluation of all admission criteria," and its DMD page says applicants "are selected for interviews and admissions on a rolling basis, and interviews take place between September and March." The same page publishes the interview day's schedule: Time. In-person day (Monday/Tuesday). Virtual day (Thursday). 8:00 a.m.. Interviewee check-in. Interviewee check-in. 8:30 a.m.. ATSU-ASDOH Dean's welcome. ATSU-ASDOH Dean's welcome. 9:00 a.m.. Group activity. Group activity. 9:30 a.m.. Interviews: panel interview, multiple mini interviews, D4 presentations, and Ortho & Advanced Care Clinic tour. Interviews: panel interview, multiple mini interviews, D4 and financial

aid presentations, and virtual campus tour. 12:00 p.m.. Lunch, wrap up, Q&A, and clinic/campus tour. Wrap up and Q&A. Group activity. "Applicants will be placed in groups to discuss a scenario that is presented to them and discuss and present a solution to the scenario." Multiple mini interviews (MMI). In ASDOH's words, "a circuit of three timed independent interview stations with a standardized patient." Each station "is unique and chosen for its relevance for assessing a candidate's overall acceptability for admission into the program," and each applicant's MMI score sheets are forwarded to the Admissions Committee. Panel interview. ASDOH lists it on both days but doesn't describe it. Presentations. You "watch videos / PowerPoint slides" about ASDOH and financial aid. On campus. ASDOH directs in-person interviewees to the Mesa campus admissions office at 5835 E. Still Circle, the two-story building on the right just after you turn

onto Still Circle. You check in in the lobby, interviews are on the first floor, and lunch and refreshments are provided. ASDOH also asks you to leave your earbuds and cell phone in your car. Monday and Tuesday, or Monday and Friday?. ASDOH's schedule labels the in-person day "Monday/Tuesday" and the virtual day "Thursday", but the location note on the same page says interview day activities "begin at 8:00a.m. on Mondays and Fridays." One 2025–26 applicant posted that five dates were available when ASDOH sent out more invitations on 5 August 2025: 10, 17 and 18 November and 1 and 2 December, all Mondays and Tuesdays. ATSU's pages also give two addresses: ASDOH's interview note says 5835 E. Still Circle, while ATSU's admissions page lists the Arizona campus admissions office at 5850 East Still Circle. Go by your invitation, and if it's unclear, ask admissions@atsu.edu. What applicants report These are posts by applicants on a public

applicant forum, not ASDOH's words. None describes the group activity, the panel or the stations: This cycle (2026–27): one applicant posted that they were invited on 20 July 2026 for an interview in November. Another, whose application was marked complete on 27 July, was invited the next day and wrote that the earliest interview slot was 1 December. A template post on 10 August 2026, from an applicant invited by email on 28 July, listed the interview as in person. Last cycle (2025–26): applicants posted invitations from 12 July 2025. Four who filled in the thread's template, invited on 20 July, 7 August (two) and 23 September 2025, each gave email as the method of notification and in person as the method of interview. Interviews also ran after December: on 15 December, one applicant wrote that they had received "a post December interview" the day before. Decisions (2025–26): on the night of 12–13 December 2025, one applicant wrote that

ASDOH "sent out at least some waitlists today", and in a post in the early hours of 15 December an applicant reported "an acceptance emailed a little after midnight." One applicant who interviewed after December posted on 17 February 2026 that they had been waitlisted and that the decision "took 1 month". On 9 April 2026, one applicant wrote that after emailing about their application they were told the waitlist "is moving very slowly" and wouldn't reach their name that year. CASPer or Kira? Not on ASDOH's pages. ASDOH's DMD page, its fact sheet and its 2026–27 catalog name no CASPer, Kira or other assessment, and none appears in the DMD page's list of what a completed application includes. Applicants on the forum have mentioned a Kira, though. On 27 December 2025, one 2025–26 applicant asked "How important is the KIRA? I did so bad...". In the 2024–25 thread, one applicant asked on 23 January 2025 how heavily "they weigh your KIRA

performance," having done it the day before, and another replied on 28 January 2025 that "your interviewers watch it prior to your interview!" None said when or how ASDOH sends it. If your secondary application or your invitation asks you to complete an assessment, do it by the date given, and ask admissions@atsu.edu if you're unsure. What ASDOH doesn't publish. Who sits on the panel and how long it lasts, how long each MMI station runs, what the group activity, panel or stations ask, whether your interviewers have read your file, and how applicants are assigned to an in-person or a virtual day. Its pages mention no manual-dexterity test at the interview. Practice for ASDOH's Panel and MMI Out Loud. ATSU emails its secondary application to those who qualify; you return it with the application fee. September 2026 – March 2027. Interviews, with applicants selected on a rolling basis. November 15, 2026. Deadline to submit your AADSAS application. December 1, 2026. DAT taken, with scores submitted through AADSAS. December 15, 2026. Deadline to submit the secondary application. From December 15, 2026. Acceptance notifications begin. July 12, 2027. Program start for the Class of 2031, in ATSU's academic calendar (subject to change). ASDOH selects applicants for interviews and admission on a rolling basis, and applicants this cycle (2026–27) and last (2025–26) reported invitations arriving from July, so there's no reason to wait for the November 15 deadline. December 1: taken, or submitted?. ASDOH's deadline lists

say the DAT must be "completed by" December 1 ("taken"), and its requirements say to "take and submit" your scores through AADSAS on or before December 1. Plan for your scores to be in AADSAS by then. If you're accepted, ASDOH's catalog says you'll have "a specified time period" to tell it whether you'll enroll. Before you matriculate, you submit a signed admission agreement, non-refundable deposits, copies of official transcripts from every institution you attended, your immunization record and a criminal background check through ATSU's approved vendor. ASDOH asks that supporting application documents be mailed to ATSU's Admissions Department in Kirksville, Missouri. Questions go to admissions@atsu.edu. What ASDOH Looks For ASDOH's DMD page says "Applicants are evaluated on academic course work, performance on the DAT, AADSAS essay, letters of evaluation, and interviews." Its 2026–27 catalog adds that complete applications are reviewed

on "the quality of academic performance, clinical exposure, extracurricular activities, work and life experiences, interest in dentistry and oral health, and recommendations," and its technical standards say "Compassion, integrity, concern for others, interpersonal skills, empathy, and motivation are all personal qualities that will be assessed during the admission and educational processes." Each can anchor an interview answer: Service, especially to people who go without care. ASDOH says it was founded "to address the shortage of dentists in Arizona, particularly in communities facing financial, geographic, and transportation barriers," and "We select students driven by service, nurturing their desire to care for underserved populations." It also prefers demonstrated community service. Talk about service you kept up over time, and the people it served. Compassion, empathy and concern for others: bring a story in which you noticed what

someone needed and acted on it. Integrity: one of ASDOH's core values as well as a quality it assesses. Have an example of owning a mistake, or of doing the right thing when it cost you something. Interpersonal skills: the interview day includes a group activity in which applicants "discuss and present a solution to the scenario." Show that you listen, build on other people's ideas and help the group reach a decision. Motivation and interest in dentistry and oral health: be specific about what you saw in a dental setting and why it made you want this work. A page about ASDOH's clinics puts it this way: "We prioritize selecting and training students who have demonstrated their commitment to our mission and values, who act with integrity, who are compassionate, respectful, community-minded, and who understand and value diversity and inclusion." ASDOH's mission statement says it "educates compassionate community-minded oral health

providers to lead the profession." The best Why ASDOH material is in its community dentistry. Community dentistry is one of four domains ASDOH's curriculum revisits every semester for four years, and ASDOH calls its emphasis on community dentistry and public health "one of the hallmark features" of its mission and approach. Every DMD student earns a Certificate in Dental Public Health, five online courses included in tuition, and can go on to a Master of Public Health with a dental emphasis. In the fourth year, Integrated Community Service Partnerships rotations add up to approximately 24 weeks (37 percent of total clinical education) at sites that include community health centers, Indian Health Services and Tribal clinics, veterans affairs clinics and mobile dental clinics. ASDOH's DMD page describes four rotations at over 60 sites; its 2025–26 fact sheet describes five at over 70. Students enter the clinic in their first year, courses

are graded pass/fail, and the in-person interview day includes an "Ortho & Advanced Care Clinic tour"; ASDOH's Advanced Care Clinic treats patients with complex medical conditions and disabilities. Connect one of these to the patients you want to serve. The practice questions below are ours, built on these criteria and ASDOH's interview format. ASDOH does not publish its interview questions. Internationally trained dentist? ASDOH's pages conflict. The international student admissions section of its DMD page says "All students must apply for first-year status," while its 2026–27 catalog says internationally trained dentists with a dental degree from a non-CODA-accredited program "may receive advanced standing credit" for the first year and be eligible to start in the D2 year "on a space available basis." ASDOH does not publish its interview questions; these are practice questions built on what it says it evaluates and the interview day it describes. ASDOH doesn t say whether its panel has read your application so build a 90-second arc that works either who you are the two or three experiences that led you to dentistry and why ASDOH is the next step. Why dentistry? ASDOH s catalog lists “interest in dentistry and oral health” and “clinical exposure” among what it reviews and names motivation among the personal qualities it assesses. Anchor your answer in something you saw or did in a dental setting then say what it

confirmed for you. Why ASDOH? Use what ASDOH says about its community dentistry as one of four domains taught every semester a Certificate in Dental Public Health for every DMD student and fourth-year community rotations of about 24 weeks at sites such as community health centers and Tribal clinics. Connect one of them to the patients you want to serve; praise for the name is not a reason. What does caring for underserved patients mean to you? ASDOH says “We select students driven by service nurturing their desire to care for underserved populations.” Answer with a community you have actually served and what you learned about the barriers its people face not with a definition. Behavioral Tell me about your community service. ASDOH prefers “Demonstrated community service through volunteerism or service-oriented employment ” and its catalog requires a letter from a community service supervisor from unpaid volunteer work. Choose service

you kept up over time and talk about the people it served rather than the hours. Tell me about a time you worked with a group to solve a problem. ASDOH s interview day includes a group activity in which applicants “discuss and present a solution to the scenario.” Keep the setup short and spend most of the answer on how you helped the group reach and present a decision. Tell me about a mistake you made and how you handled it. Integrity is one of ASDOH s core values and one of the personal qualities its catalog says are assessed in admission. Be specific about what went wrong what you did about it and what you do differently now. Tell me about a time you showed empathy to someone who was struggling. ASDOH s catalog names compassion concern for others and empathy among the personal qualities it assesses. Say what you noticed what you did and how the person responded. MMI / Ethical Scenario A patient tells you they are too anxious to sit in

the dental chair. What do you do? ASDOH s MMI is “a circuit of three timed independent interview stations with a standardized patient ” so practice talking to a patient not about one. Acknowledge the fear ask what worries them explain what will happen in plain words and agree on a next step together. A patient needs treatment they can t afford. What do you do? Acknowledge the patient without judgment explore legitimate options such as phased treatment or a community health center and never lower the standard of care. ASDOH s own Smile Forward program provides care for children and adults with little or no dental insurance who demonstrate financial need. A patient refuses the treatment you recommend. How do you respond? Balance the patient s right to decide with their explain clearly find out what worries them offer alternatives document the conversation and don t abandon the patient. With a standardized patient how you listen is part of

the answer. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation to the proper channels and say why integrity one of ASDOH s core values matters when patients trust your license. Prepare for three formats in one morning After check-in and the dean s welcome ASDOH s interview day has a group activity at 00 a.m. then a panel interview and the MMI from 30. Practice all building on other people s ideas in a group answering a panel and giving short timed answers at a station. Speak to the standardized patient not about them ASDOH describes its MMI as “a circuit of three timed independent interview stations with a standardized patient.” Practice in listen before you advise explain in plain words check that you ve been understood and agree on a next step together. Send three letters one from a dentist ASDOH s DMD page asks for at least two letters from a science faculty member or

predental committee member and from a dentist with a community service supervisor s letter optional; its 2026–27 catalog requires all three. Ask all three writers early and make sure the service letter comes from volunteer work you weren t paid for as both pages require. Lead with service ASDOH prefers “Demonstrated community service through volunteerism or service-oriented employment” and says it selects “students driven by service.” Have one service experience you can discuss in who it served what you did over time and what it taught you about access to care. ASDOH s DMD page lays out an interview morning built around three a group activity in which applicants “discuss and present a solution to the scenario”; a panel interview; and multiple mini interviews “a circuit of three timed independent interview stations with a standardized patient.” The day also includes the dean s welcome presentations and a campus tour in person or virtual. ASDOH doesn t publish who sits on the panel how long each station runs or what is asked. Does ASDOH use the MMI? Yes

as one part of its interview day. ASDOH describes its multiple mini interviews as “a circuit of three timed independent interview stations with a standardized patient ” each “chosen for its relevance for assessing a candidate s overall acceptability for admission ” with score sheets forwarded to the Admissions Committee. The same morning includes a panel interview and a group activity so prepare for all three. ASDOH s pages mention no manual-dexterity test at the interview. Is the ASDOH interview in person or virtual? ASDOH s schedule lists an in-person interview day at its Mesa campus (labeled Monday/Tuesday though its location note says activities begin at 00 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays) and a virtual interview day (Thursday). It doesn t say how applicants are assigned to either. Four 2025–26 applicants and one 2026–27 applicant who posted on a public forum listed their interviews as in person. Go by your invitation. Does ASDOH

require CASPer or Kira? Neither appears on ASDOH s DMD page its fact sheet or its 2026–27 catalog. Applicants on a public forum have mentioned a Kira one 2025–26 applicant asked in December 2025 how important “the KIRA” was and in January 2025 a 2024–25 applicant reported having completed one. If your secondary application or invitation asks you to complete an assessment do it by the date given and ask admissions@atsu.edu if you re unsure. What GPA and DAT do I need for ASDOH? ASDOH s minimum is a 2.75 cumulative and science GPA on a four-point scale with 3.0 the recommended minimum and it says your overall and science GPA the schools you attended and the rigor of your course load “are all assessed on an individual basis.” The DAT is required with scores submitted through AADSAS by December 1 and no older than three years; ASDOH publishes no minimum score. Its 2025 entering class averaged a 3.58 GPA (3.50 science) and a DAT Academic

Average of 20.15 on the old 1–30 scale. How many applicants does ASDOH interview? For its 2025 entering class ASDOH received 3 437 applications and interviewed 491 applicants 14.3% by our arithmetic or about 1 in 7. The class size was 78. ASDOH doesn t publish how many offers it made so no acceptance rate can be worked out from its figures. When are ASDOH s 2026–27 deadlines? Submit AADSAS by November 15 2026 take the DAT and have your scores submitted through AADSAS by December 1 2026 and submit ATSU s secondary application by December 15 2026. Interviews run from September to March on a rolling basis and acceptance notifications begin December 15. One 2025–26 applicant reported an acceptance by email a little after midnight on 15 December 2025. How many letters of recommendation does ASDOH require? ASDOH s pages disagree. Its DMD admissions page asks for at least two one from a science faculty member or predental committee member and

one from a dentist with a community service supervisor s letter optional. Its 2026–27 catalog requires at least a science faculty member committee member or academic advisor; a dentist; and a community service supervisor from a volunteer project in which you weren t paid.
