Dental College of Georgia (DCG) Interview: DMD 2026-27

Dental College of Georgia DMD guide from its own pages: on-campus interviews mid-Aug to early Dec, the Sept 30 deadline (passed) and Dec 15 decisions.

DCG interviews on campus from mid-August to early December, by invitation, with DCG faculty, alumni and professional staff, and its admissions brochure, a 2024 file, describes two one-on-one interviews. Here is what DCG publishes, what applicants report, and how to prepare. return ( <> DCG DMD Requirements and Class Profile The Dental College of Georgia (DCG) is Augusta University's dental school, in Augusta, Georgia. The university's 2026–2027 catalog says "The DCG was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care by educating students in dentistry," and its DMD takes at least eight semesters over four calendar years. You apply through AADSAS only. For the class entering in 2027, DCG's deadline for the AADSAS application, the DAT and the TOEFL was September 30, 2026, which has passed. DCG publishes a profile of each entering class. This is what it reports for the Class of 2030, which started in 2026: Figure. Class

of 2030 (started in 2026). Matriculants. 110 (104 Georgia residents, 6 non-Georgia residents). Average GPA. 3.75 overall, 3.69 science. Average DAT. Academic Average 450, Perceptual Ability 451, Natural Science 454, on the 200–600 scale. Applications submitted. 1,628 (496 Georgia, 1,132 out of state). Interviewed. 245 (197 Georgia, 48 out of state). Age. 20–37 (average 22.5). Reapplicants. 26. From dental health professional shortage areas. “49% of students (110)”, in DCG's words. Which DAT scale are 450, 451 and 454 on?. The 200–600 scale the DAT has used since 1 March 2025. DCG's Class of 2030 profile gives its averages as three-digit scores with no old-scale equivalents, and we don't convert any. DCG's minimum DAT scores are on the same scale: "Academic – 370, Perceptual – 360, Total Science – 380" (its minimum GPA is 3.00, overall and science). Its pages also carry two other sets of averages. Its requirements page and FAQ give an

"Average for entering class of 2026" of 440 Academic Average, 450 Perceptual Ability and 450 Total Science, also three-digit scores on the 200–600 scale (and, on the requirements page, a 3.74 overall and 3.67 science GPA). Its FAQ also says "The averages of admitted students in this past cycle had 21 on the AA portion, a 20 on the PAT portion and a 21 on the TS portion of the DAT": figures on the old 1–30 scale, which DCG's 2023–24 version of the FAQ already gave. Go by the profile, and check which scale any score you compare is on. In state or out of state? DCG's application page says "Up to 10 percent of accepted students will be non-Georgia residents" and "Applications from non-residents must be highly competitive for serious consideration." Its class profiles count both groups: Applicant pool. Class of 2029 (started in 2025). Class of 2030 (started in 2026). Applied. 1,378 applicants (457 Georgia, 921 out of state). 1,628

applications (496 Georgia, 1,132 out of state). Interviewed. 217 (170 Georgia, 47 out of state). 245 (197 Georgia, 48 out of state). Matriculants. 100 (92 Georgia residents, 8 non-Georgia). 110 (104 Georgia residents, 6 non-Georgia). Out of state? Know these numbers. For the Class of 2030, DCG interviewed 48 out-of-state applicants from 1,132 out-of-state applications, and 6 non-Georgia residents enrolled. DCG publishes counts, not an acceptance rate, and we don't compute one. Its FAQ adds that out-of-state applicants don't get the supplemental application automatically: "Their AADSAS application is reviewed. Depending on the results, out-of-state applicants are invited to complete the DCG supplemental application on a case-by-case basis." (Its requirements and application pages, and the FAQ's own answer on how the application process works, say all applicants are emailed the link.) To count as a Georgia resident, you must have lived in

Georgia for at least twelve consecutive months before enrollment; for the class entering in 2027, DCG's application page says that means "from the first week of July 2026." Its FAQ adds an exception: if your parents, spouse or court-appointed guardian currently live in Georgia and you are a dependent, "you may claim Georgia residency." Prerequisite coursework Course. DCG's requirement. Biology. One academic year of principles of biology with labs (or equivalent). Chemistry. One academic year of principles of chemistry with labs. Advanced chemistry. One academic year with labs: Organic Chemistry I with lab and Biochemistry I with or without a lab; Organic Chemistry II is “optional, but highly recommended”. Physics. One semester (or two quarters) with lab. English. One academic year (or the portion of an academic year required for the baccalaureate degree at an accredited American college or university). What counts as a year: "An

academic year equals two semesters or three quarters or one semester and two quarters." Grades: every required course must be on a graded A–F scale, not pass/fail, with a C or better, and DCG "does not acknowledge the +/- system at this time." Its FAQ adds, "While C’s are not considered competitive, they are acceptable results in reference to the prerequisite courses." When to finish: you don't need every prerequisite done when you apply, but all must be complete before you matriculate; DCG's FAQ says that, "If necessary," accepted applicants may finish them in the summer before they start. DCG notes that the more required courses you complete before applying, "the better perspective the committee has" on how you will handle its science courses. College hours: at least 90 semester hours (135 quarter hours) at an accredited American college or university, "with preference given to students who earn a baccalaureate degree." The FAQ says

"Very few students are accepted after completing only three years of college work." Courses taken in another country don't count, and DCG doesn't accept professional evaluations of foreign transcripts. Your major "is not a significant factor in the admissions process." The DAT: required, taken within three years of applying and, this cycle, by September 30, 2026. You may retake it after 60 days, and "examinees will be limited to three opportunities to take the test." DCG accepts unofficial scores by email "for the purpose of moving forward for review," but official scores must come through AADSAS, and its application page says "An applicant will not be considered for an interview if all letters of recommendation and all DAT scores have not been submitted through the AADSAS application process." The FAQ puts the emphasis on "the academic average, perceptual ability and total science portions." Letters, through AADSAS: two combinations,

which DCG's pages describe differently (see below). Don't ask family members: DCG suggests "people in responsible positions or professions, if possible," who know you personally. Time in a dental setting: DCG "strongly encourages applicants to shadow a dentist," and its FAQ says "On average, successful applicants accrue about 300 hours of exposure in a dental setting." That is an average, not a minimum. English: TOEFL scores are required if English isn't your first language, with a minimum of 100 and 26 in speaking, from a test taken within two years of applying; this cycle's deadline was September 30, 2026. DCG's requirements page says you may be waived if you submit proof of earning at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US college or university before you start at DCG, or the test may be waived by its admissions administrators "during a scheduled consultation for this purpose." Disadvantaged status: "All applicants

are required to complete the “Disadvantaged Status” section of the AADSAS application." Essential functions: DCG's technical standards apply from admission through graduation, and its page for candidates says all DMD candidates must review and sign them. They include "sufficient manual dexterity to manipulate and control dental instruments and devices," and DCG says it "will provide reasonable accommodation in the admissions process for applicants with disabilities." Letters: DCG's pages disagree on Option 1. DCG's web pages send every letter through AADSAS, and every page puts a letter from a dentist in both options (on the web pages, a dentist "whom you have shadowed"). Option 2 is four letters: an academic professional (a "science instructor, advisor, department chair, etc."), a dentist and two personal letters from an "academic advocate, another dentist, a supervisor or someone who knows the applicant well enough to speak positively

on the applicant's behalf." Option 1 differs by page. DCG's requirements page lists a committee or composite packet, which "counts as one letter," and a dentist, and its admissions brochure lists the same two letters. Its FAQ, which speaks of "(4) letters," and its application page add the two personal letters. Plan on four letters either way, and confirm with dcgadmissions@augusta.edu. CASPer or Kira? Not on DCG's pages, but applicants report a Kira. DCG's admissions pages, its FAQ, its two admissions brochures and the DMD page of Augusta University's 2026–2027 catalog don't mention CASPer, Acuity Insights, Kira or any similar assessment. Applicants on a public forum report a Kira, though. In the forum's DCG thread for 2025–26, eleven applicants described receiving or completing a Kira assessment from DCG; the first wrote on 30 June 2025, "I guess DCG decided to do the Kira this year. Received the Kira Assessment today," and the same

applicant wrote on 30 July that "Kira is separate from the supplemental." In this cycle's thread, two applicants posted on 21 July 2026 that they had received a Kira invitation that day ("I also received Kira interview invite today," the second wrote). Whether every applicant gets one is unclear: on 6 October 2025, one applicant asked, "Does everyone who applies get kira?", and no one in the thread knew. If DCG emails you a Kira link, complete it by the date it gives, and ask dcgadmissions@augusta.edu if anything is unclear. To confirm a rule where DCG's pages disagree, email dcgadmissions@augusta.edu or call (706) 721-3587, the contacts DCG gives for its admissions office and its advising appointments. The DCG Interview: What the College Says On campus, by invitation only. DCG's FAQ says applicants judged qualified on "grades, DAT scores, letters of recommendation and other non-cognitive factors" are "invited to visit the campus for

admission interviews." Its requirements page says an applicant "may be invited for an interview by the DCG Admissions Committee following a review of the completed application." None of the DCG pages we read describes a virtual interview. Mid-August to early December. "Interviews are conducted from mid August to early December. All decisions are made soon thereafter." DCG's admissions brochure gives the same window. Faculty, alumni and staff. DCG's requirements page says interviews are "conducted by DCG faculty, alumni and professional staff." Its web pages don't say how many interviews you'll have or how long each lasts; its brochure does give a number (below). What it assesses. Interviews are "designed to help assess the applicant's personality, motivation and ability deemed pertinent to the successful study of dentistry." The FAQ says interviews "play an important part in the admissions process," giving the committee "useful, though

subjective, information," and that they give selected applicants "a chance to present themselves on a personal basis." Letters and scores first. No interview until all your letters and DAT scores have come through AADSAS, and the FAQ says the decision on an interview is made once the AADSAS application, supplemental application, letters and DAT scores have been received. Bring proof of lawful presence. "All applicants who are granted an interview must show additional documentation as proof of lawful presence in the United States before being offered acceptance." The documents DCG accepts include a certified US birth certificate (bring the original: "A photocopy is not acceptable"), a current US passport, and a current Georgia driver's license or state ID issued after January 1, 2008; its list also has naturalization and citizenship certificates, a military ID and Alabama and South Carolina licenses issued after set dates. If you have a

green card, bring it to the interview to be copied. Financial aid. "Information and applications for financial aid are provided to all applicants invited to interview." Two one-on-one interviews: the brochure's words. DCG's admissions brochure, linked from its admissions page (the file dates from September 2024; its text gives no year), says: "Candidates will participate in two one-on-one interviews with DCG faculty and administrators. Admissions committee members will help assess the applicants’ communication skills, motivation, and ability." DCG's 2019 brochure and an older admissions page, for students entering in 2022, also describe two one-on-one interviews. The current web pages give no number and name alumni among the interviewers. If you have two interviews, you'll tell your story twice, to different people: keep it consistent and specific both times. What applicants report These are posts on a public applicant forum, and the

forum's invite tracker, which a volunteer compiles from applicants' reports, not DCG's words: This cycle (2026–27): the tracker, last updated 25 September 2026, lists DCG's first invitations on 7 August and first interview dates of 16–17 August (a Sunday and a Monday), in person. In the forum's DCG thread for this cycle, two applicants posted on 21 July 2026 that they had received a Kira invitation that day, and on 24 September another wrote, "I submitted Kira Assess Aug 3rd but havent heard anything from them." As of 7 October 2026, no one in that thread had posted their own interview invitation. Last cycle (2025–26): the tracker listed first invitations on 16 July 2025 and first interview dates of 10–11 August, in person. In the forum's DCG thread, one applicant invited by email on 30 July listed the dates offered as "August 10-11," "August 17-18" and "August 24-25th," each a Sunday and the Monday after, and later wrote "I interviewed

Aug 17/18." The three applicants who described the setting all wrote in person. The Kira: eleven applicants in the 2025–26 thread described receiving or completing a Kira assessment from DCG, the first on 30 June 2025. One, who received a Kira invite on 2 September, wrote: "Deadline for that round of Kira pre-interviews is Tuesday 9 Sept." Another posted on 28 September 2025 that "This year was the first for the KIRA at DCG," listing a Kira requested on 30 June, submitted on 2 July and an interview invitation on 20 August. On 2 August 2026, an applicant from that cycle wrote that "last year you had to have done the kira to get the invite." Short notice: on 21 October 2025, one applicant posted that they had just been invited for "this sunday," calling it "a VERY short turnaround." Another wrote that day that DCG sends invitations "a week or two before the actual interview date" and interviews "once a week with roughly 15 people each

time all the way until the first week of December." An applicant who interviewed in August wrote, "I had about 16 in my interview group this year." Decision day: on 15 December 2025, three applicants posted that DCG had called them with an offer, one of them from out of state. DCG's FAQ says "A letter will be sent to you notifying you of the committee's decision." None of the posts describes the interview itself: how many interviewers, how long, whether they had read the application, or what was asked. What DCG doesn't publish. How long each interview lasts, how many you'll have (its web pages give no number; its brochure, a 2024 file, says two), whether your interviewers have read your application, what is asked, the day's schedule, which days of the week it interviews, and anything about a Kira. Because your interviewers may be faculty, alumni or professional staff, be ready to explain your motivation, your experiences and why DCG

without assuming they know your file. Practice Your DCG Answers Out Loud. Every prerequisite finished (the summer before is allowed if necessary) and, for Georgia residency, twelve consecutive months living in Georgia. 2027. Classes

begin; DCG doesn't publish the date (its fall 2026 first-year schedule lists classes from July 6, 2026). September 30, or February 5?. DCG's own pages disagree on how long applications are open. Its requirements page says "You may submit your AADSAS application to DCG from June 4 through September 30, 2026, DCG's deadline for application," its FAQ says the September 30 deadline "applies to the AADSAS application and test scores (DAT and TOEFL)," and its brochure gives the same date. Its application information page opens with "Applications Open: May 12, 2026 - Febuary 5, 2027" (sic) and doesn't say what the later date is for. Go by September 30, the stricter date, which has passed. If you haven't applied, email dcgadmissions@augusta.edu before counting on February 5. If you're accepted, DCG requires a non-refundable deposit of $500 for Georgia residents and $1,000 for out-of-state and international students, credited toward

first-semester fees. Its brochure says "Applicants may apply three consecutive times," and that before a fourth application, candidates "must take at least one academic year to become more competitive"; applicants who aren't offered a place are encouraged to schedule an advising consultation. A separate route: the BS-DMD Dental Scholars program. Augusta University's Dental Scholars program (BS-DMD) is for high school seniors applying to AU as first-time freshmen: three years of a BS in Cell and Molecular Biology, then the four-year DMD. It has its own interviews, "following both the first and third years of study," and scholars who meet its criteria then apply to DCG through AADSAS. The Class of 2030 included 9 Dental Scholars. This guide covers the DMD interview for AADSAS applicants. What DCG Looks For DCG's FAQ lists what its committee weighs, "not in any particular order": "overall grade point average (GPA), science GPA, pattern of

grades, Dental Admission Test scores, letters of recommendation, interviews, proficiency in English and communication skills, motivation for becoming a dentist, unusual educational experiences or background, life experiences, work experiences, demonstrations of leadership in activities, involvement in community and extracurricular activities, volunteer work, honors and awards received, residence in a health professions shortage (underserved) area, research experiences and experience in an oral health care setting." It adds that "High grades and DAT scores alone do not guarantee acceptance" and that many applicants "are accepted because they show exceptional promise in certain areas." For the interview, prepare for these: Motivation for dentistry: the interview is designed to assess "personality, motivation and ability," and the brochure says admissions committee members "will help assess the applicants’ communication skills, motivation,

and ability." If you've also applied to medical school, be ready to say why dentistry: DCG says that if committee members know you've applied to other programs, "they may question your interest in dentistry." Career changers are encouraged to apply "as long as they can substantiate their reasons for desiring a career in dentistry." Communication: the FAQ lists "proficiency in English and communication skills," and DCG's essential functions ask candidates "to relate effectively and sensitively with patients of all genders; as well as ages, races, life-styles, sexual orientations and cultural backgrounds." Exposure to dentistry: "It is important to have some first-hand knowledge of dental practice prior to a decision to pursue a career in dentistry." Have specific moments from your time in a dental setting ready, not just the total hours. Leadership and service: the FAQ lists "demonstrations of leadership in activities," community

involvement and volunteer work. DCG's values include "Service – reflected in volunteerism, altruism, benevolence, advocacy, and selflessness," and its DMD can be earned with a distinction in leadership. Georgia and its shortage areas: the requirements page names "commitment to practice in Georgia or health shortage areas," and the FAQ lists "residence in a health professions shortage (underserved) area." DCG's Class of 2030 profile says "49% of students (110) hail from dental health professional shortage areas." If you plan to practice in Georgia or an underserved community, say where and why. Your path: "unusual educational experiences or background, life experiences, work experiences" all count. The catalog notes that students with families, "including those who pursue dentistry as a second career, have excelled at Augusta University," and DCG says it has accepted applicants "as young as 19 and as old as 47." Teamwork and stress: the

essential functions ask candidates "to work within a team, to learn to function in the face of uncertainties inherent in the clinical problems of many patients and to function under stress," and say "Honesty, compassion, integrity and concern for others are all personal qualities that are necessary in dental students and dental faculty." Putting patients first: "A student must always act in the best interest of the patient and society even when there is a conflict with the student's personal self-interest." Hand skills: the essential functions require "sufficient manual dexterity to manipulate and control dental instruments and devices." Have one activity you can describe concretely. DCG's own code makes a good ethics checklist. DCG's Dental Student Code of Professionalism and Ethics, effective August 1, 2024, asks students to "Seek advice and counsel when faced with an ethical dilemma." It says patients should be told about proposed

treatment "in language the patient could reasonably be expected to understand," with "any recognized alternatives" and the risks; that they "should be informed of their present oral health status without disparaging comments being made about prior services"; that "Incorrect treatment dates may not be reported to a third-party payment agency in order to assist a patient in obtaining benefits that otherwise would be disallowed"; and that faculty, students, residents and staff "have the responsibility to report violations" of the code. Measure your answers to ethical questions against these. The best Why DCG material is in its clinics and its mission for Georgia. Students begin treating patients as early as their second year. DCG's admissions page says the fourth year is dedicated "almost entirely to patient care, culminating in hands-on clinical rotations across public health facilities throughout Georgia," and its brochure describes

three two-week rotations at designated public health clinics. Its volunteer programs include an emergency clinic staffed by senior students, free screenings at the Augusta flea market, screenings at Boys and Girls Clubs, Give Kids a Smile Day, and mission trips to countries such as Peru, Mexico and Nicaragua. You can add a distinction in research or leadership, and the catalog lists concurrent DMD/MBA and DMD/MPH degrees, open after at least two semesters of the DMD. DCG is also building a campus in Savannah: its page cites "21 Counties with no practicing dentist" in Georgia and says the expansion "will enable the college to train 50 additional dentists and 20 more dental hygienists each year." Connect one of these to the dentist you want to be and where you want to practice. The practice questions below are ours, built on these criteria. DCG does not publish its interview questions. Internationally trained dentist? DCG's FAQ says

"Unfortunately, DCG does not have an advanced-standing program for internationally trained dentists," and its requirements page says it accepts no advanced-standing or transfer applications. DCG s FAQ says that if committee members know you ve applied to other programs “they may question your interest in dentistry.” Name what draws you to dentistry in particular and anchor it in something you saw in a dental setting rather than in a general wish to help people. Why DCG? Use what DCG says about patients from as early as the second year a fourth year “devoted almost solely to patient care ” rotations at public health facilities across Georgia and a college that Augusta University s catalog says “was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care.” Connect one of these to how you want to learn and where you want to practice. Where do you see yourself practicing? Would you stay in Georgia? DCG s committee considers “commitment to practice in Georgia or health shortage areas ” and its Class of 2030 profile says “49% of students (110) hail from dental health professional shortage areas.” Be honest and a

community the need you have seen there and what you would do about it. Don t promise what you haven t thought through. Behavioral Describe a leadership role and what you accomplished in it. DCG s FAQ lists “demonstrations of leadership in activities” among the factors its committee weighs and its DMD can be earned with a distinction in leadership. Pick a time you took responsibility for an outcome not just a title and say what changed because of you. Tell me about your community service. What did it teach you? DCG s values include “Service – reflected in volunteerism altruism benevolence advocacy and selflessness ” and its FAQ lists community involvement and volunteer work. Pick one experience say what you did and for whom and explain how it shaped the dentist you want to be. Tell me about a time you worked under pressure as part of a team. DCG s essential functions ask candidates “to work within a team to learn to function in the face

of uncertainties inherent in the clinical problems of many patients and to function under stress.” Keep the setup short show what you did and how you kept the team working and say what you learned. What have you learned from your time in a dental setting? DCG “strongly encourages applicants to shadow a dentist ” and its FAQ says successful applicants average “about 300 hours of exposure in a dental setting.” Name one thing you saw a dentist do with a patient and what it taught you about the profession; specific moments count for more than totals. Ethical / Scenario A patient asks you to change the date of a procedure on an insurance claim so it will be covered. What do you do? DCG s Code of Professionalism and Ethics says “Incorrect treatment dates may not be reported to a third-party payment agency in order to assist a patient in obtaining benefits that otherwise would be disallowed.” Decline kindly and clearly explain why and look for

legitimate options such as phasing treatment or finding lower-cost care. A new patient s previous dentist did poor work. What do you tell the patient? DCG s code says patients “should be informed of their present oral health status without disparaging comments being made about prior services.” Describe what you see factually explain the options and leave judgments about the other dentist out of it. You see a classmate cheating on an exam. What do you do? DCG s code says faculty students residents and staff “have the responsibility to report violations” of the code and asks students to “Seek advice and counsel when faced with an ethical dilemma.” Describe an escalation path from a direct conversation to the proper channels and say why integrity matters when patients will trust your license. A patient who drove two hours to the clinic can t afford the treatment you recommend. What do you do? DCG s code says patients should be told about

treatment “in language the patient could reasonably be expected to understand ” including “any recognized alternatives” and the risks. Explain the options without judgment consider phased or alternative treatment and never lower the standard of care.
